Whistle While You Podcast

posted Tuesday, 11 November 2008

Today's contrast podcast theme is "Songs with whistling in them." You can listen to and/or download it right here.

I'm not in it this week. Not because I couldn't come up with a whistling song but because I didn't want to pick what I thought might be an obvious one. See, the only ones I could think of were by Andrew Bird and since I figured he represents about 50% of all songs with whistling in them, I decided not to contribute. Crazy, I know. (Some might even say nuts!) And of course I'm sure I'll be proved wrong once I take a listen to the podcast.

Anyway, this is one of my favorite Andrew Bird songs and I think it demonstrates his whistling talents nicely. His new album, Noble Beast, comes out January 27th, 2009. It will be a must-have, I'm certain.

Andrew Bird--"A Nervous Tic Motion of the Head to the Left" mp3 off Andrew Bird & The Mysterious Production of Eggs (buy)

Next week's theme is the first in a series having to do with the human body and it will start with "The heart." Also, don't forget to get your list of the top-fifty songs of the year in to Tim by Nov. 16th. Send them to: contrast.podcast@gmail.com with your number one song at spot #1.

I couldn't think of any either! That's two weeks in a row I haven't been in it...I'm having withdrawals. I'm sure I can rustle up something for next week though - there are probably too many options actually.

too many options presents a whole other problem--makes it even harder to choose! i'd better start working on it now. : )

I liked James' take on the whistle, and he was the only one who thought of it!

I'm sure you'll both have a heart next week! :-)

I had the same problem, mjrc, although part of my issue is lack of energy! Any Andrew Bird song would do. And in that case, how do you choose?

On a related note, my younger son hates whistling - hurts his years - it's like he's been struck. perhaps it's better that I didin't sort through my whistling songs, and end up whistling a happy tune too often!

I found a sweet little remix of this song awhile back, sounds pretty much the same at the start, but then there is some beat boxing thrown in. Yeah sounds bizarre, but it's actually a cool song. It's a French group called Polaroid. http://www.myspace.com/polaroidal

nat--i liked his take, too, because i hadn't thought of it either. i sure felt dumb, tho, after hearing all those songs and not a one being andrew bird!

wre--i think you can be forgiven for missing out on the podcast lately. it's hard to keep up with for me sometimes and i've got a fair amount of free time during the day! sorry to hear that ld dislikes whistling, though. maybe as he gets older it will bother him less?

lizette--i'm going to have to check ou that remix. i think you mentioned polaroid on your blog a while back, am i right? i think i liked them. : )

The only ones I thought of were this one or some other Andrew Bird song, and the old Lovin' Spoonful, "What a Day for a Daydream," so I felt uninspired. On the other hand, I have too many choices for the next podcast. I've got it narrowed down to four at this point.

all mp3s are for sampling purposes only. you like it? you buy it. you want me to take it down? let me know. and for the uninitiated, if you wish to listen to a song, click on the little blue arrows and they will stream. thanks, your host and music lover, mjrc.
