When you're home alone, do you lock the bathroom door? Do you even shut it?
I learned a long time ago that I had to lock the door when my kids were around or else I'd have no privacy whatsoever. I also learned that even if they are outside playing, if I'm in the bathroom nearest the back door it's best to bolt it. I've been intruded upon by more than one child who didn't bother to knock in his rush to get in.
So now I lock it even when I'm home by myself. It's a habit--more like a reflex--and I have to consciously tell myself "there's no one else here, it's OK" in order to not do it.

Another thing I do when I'm home alone is listen to the contrast podcast (although not necessarily in the bathroom). Today's episode is "B-sides." I'm not in it because I don't own any vinyl 7" records, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't go and enjoy it (right here). Next week we return to the theme of the human body and the focus will be "The feet." Perhaps you've made a New Year's Resolution to contribute to the contrast podcast--this would be a great week to get in on the fun.
Hey, in case you haven't had your fill of year-end "top" lists, you can head over to Blog Fresh Radio and/or The Hype Machine, as they've got a joint effort up called the The Hype Machine 2008 Music Blog Zeitgeist. I got to be in it again this year, as did Matthew from Song, by Toad and Bill from Sound Bites (he formerly of Blog Fresh Radio fame). They're putting up 10 albums a day for five days (today is day 2), so I haven't heard the whole thing yet. One last note, Imeem is streaming all 50 albums in their entireties, which is pretty cool. Actually, the best thing about all these year-end lists is that it forces (well, encourages) me to listen to music I might otherwise have just ignored, so I really enjoy them.
I don't lock the bathroom door at all. There's no lock on the toilet so
that's not an option. There is a lock on the bathroom, which is just a
shower and a basin, but since it's in a half-renovated state and there's a
bit of a gap right up the top where the walls don't fully join to the roof,
you can hear when there's someone in there, so I don't bother. I know that
no-one is going to come barging in.
I never lock anything.
The Strokes are the greatest.
My little boys throws a strop if he can't follow me into the bathroom. It's
OK for now, but I hope he gets over it soon...
agnes--"interesting" is a very nice way of putting it! ;-) the funny thing
is, i was home alone when i realized this--very much king of the castle, as
you say--and i wondered if i was weird or something!
When nobody's around, I leave the door wide open! If anyone's home, I lock
it, as I have been walked in on before, too.
I live by myself and I still shut and lock the door. You know, if someone
breaks in, I won't be caught like that :)
andy--and that's a very important consideration! ;-) i think if i lived
completely alone, i might still shut the door but probably not lock it, but
at this point it would take years to break the habit i'm in.
cant believe I've followed this thread and that I'm replying......
