What Are You Thankful For?

     Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. I've actually been feeling thankful this year, imagine that. But it's true. For the past couple of years, I think my ability to feel truly grateful had been muted by my depression. But this year I'm doing much better, my family is doing well and, well, we have a lot to be thankful for.

     What are you thankful for? I'm feeling extra thankful for my husband this year. He puts up with a lot from me and I don't think I tell him often enough how much I appreciate his understanding. I'm also thankful for my beautiful children, which I know is about as cliche as it gets, but they give me so much joy. I really enjoy spending time with them. I'm grateful for my job and the wonderful people I work with. Having it has been indescribably good for my mental health.

     On a larger scale, I'm sooooooooooo thankful that the people of America elected Barack Obama. Every time he comes on television and tells us more about his plans for the economy, I feel reassured. What a difference knowing the right person will be in the Oval Office is making.

     This might seem contradictory to my above sentiment, but I'm also grateful for the status quo, at least when it comes to my own personal situation. I would love it if things stayed just the way they are for a while.

     And last but not least, I'm really glad I'm able to keep my mouth shut while I listen to my ipod. I was at the gym the other day and even with my headphones blasting and all the ambient noise that comes with the exercise equipment, I could hear the woman next to me singing along to her music. All I could think was, Thank god that isn't me!!
