For whatever reason, my family wants to go on a tour of the White House, so that's what we're doing this weekend.
Have you ever been on one? To get inside you have to practically give up your firstborn. Well, it's not that bad, but you have to give your social security number AND passport number and bring that with you and you can only take in cell phones, wallets, car keys and umbrellas. Umbrellas strikes me as kind of a weird exception--couldn't you use one as a weapon? Anyway, no purses, bags, or food/beverage of any kind. It's funny that they don't expressly forbid cameras, although I'm sure they're on the "do not bring" list.
It should be interesting, regardless, and I'll be sure to wish G.W. a not-so-fond farewell for you all if I see him. Of course, it being the weekend and all, he's probably got the day off.
I'm not sure there's a unifying theme to these songs. They're just ones I'm loving at the moment. Kind of like I'm loving the thought of Obama being in the White House.
MGMT--"Time to Pretend" mp3 off Oracular Spectacular (buy)
Girlsareshort--"Osaka" mp3 off Early North American (buy)
Phoenix--"If I Ever Feel Better (Todd Edwards Better Dub)" mp3 off (I have no idea, sorry.)
Amen to 'Time To Pretend'! I loved it waaaaayyy before it became a big hit
over here, and MGMT vids became the norm on Rage (Vid show on Oz TV). It's
almost a guilty pleasure now all the teenybopper indie kids have discovered
it. Still love it though!
isn't that a great song? i shied away from them for a long while, myself,
and once i actually listened to them, i really liked it. maybe the
teenyboppers have got good taste for once!
I did the same thing with Vampire Weekend too. I don't really love them
though, but I do appreciate why they've got all that hype going on.
I like them both, but they're not my most favoritest bands ever or
anything.
I'd love to do a White House tour. Ever since West Wing.
nat--i was there when i was in 11th grade, too, only i don't remember
anything about it other than it was the first time i'd ever really seen two
gay men holding hands in public. they were ahead of us in line and i was
fascinated by them. flash forward--this weekend there was a big
demonstration against proposition 8 on the mall, although we sort of missed
it all.
