We can't lose faith in Obama, people. We have to fight back. Demand that the media do their jobs and ask hard questions. Write letters to the editor. Go out and register voters. Volunteer to drive people to the polls on election day. Take your anger and outrage and use it--there are a multitude of things you can do.
We've got to get the focus back to McCain.
McCain = Bush = 8 years of failed policies.
This is the reality that McCain can't hide or run away from. The problems at hand are serious and enormous--the dismal economy, the endless war in Iraq, the energy crisis and global warming--and are crucial to your health and well being. They need to be addressed head on. We can't allow them be obfuscated by the unimportant wedge issues the Republicans are trying to make us pay attention to.
If it's Palin who's got your goat, you can ask people if they know that she believes in creationism and that when she was mayor she wanted to ban books in her local library (read this and then tell your friends to read it) and that she thinks her foreign policy experience is sufficient in part because she can see Russia from an island in Alaska. Ask them if she really stands for what they believe in.
Regarding Sarah Palin, Gloria Steinem makes some powerfully insightful points regarding the scary similarity of mesdames Palin and Schlafly in this article in the LA Times. Read it and then get out there and do something proactive. We can't sit back and let this election deviate from what really matters. The stakes are too high.

p.s. Here's another eye-opening article about the Republican vice-presidential nominee. She is certainly not all that she appears to be when it comes to ethics and reform! She may be more of a good-old-boy in that respect than Bush.
p.p.s. Speaking of putting the focus back on McCain, read this piece in the Chicago Tribune that details a number of his campaign's recent lies about Obama.
Hear, hear!
yes, we cannot lose hope but boy is this scary. can an election be won or
lost on the shoulders of an inexperienced hillbilly (no offense to
hillbillys not running for the second highest office in the land)? this is
an embarrassment for our country and our electorate. worse this woman is an
insult to the people of this country. the cynicism the John McCain has
shown in choosing her to appease the fringe right is down right
demoralizing. sorry for the rant but this is even worse than Bush...
i just watched bill maher's latest episode of "real time" and he defined
cynicism as people who know better but continue to do otherwise despite it.
for instance, the republicans know sarah palin is pitifully unqualified for
the job but they are betting the american people won't dig deep enough or
care enough to demand better from them. they're looking for a win at all
costs and it is incredibly disrespectful to any and all americans who are
looking for real answers and honest governing.
I've not lost faith in Obama. I've lost faith in my fellow Americans. I've
lost faith in their ability to make intelligent, informed decisions about
their government.
well, i certainly felt that way in 2004. i thought we, as a nation of
fools, deserved who we got. but this time i think it's even more important.
i'm not sure what all i can do to help convince my fellow americans that
they need to think differently this time, but i'm going to do whatever i
can! the trouble is that people vote so much with their emotions and
actually vote against their best interests. a very odd phenomena.
I agree mostly. I, too, expect the media to do their jobs. They aren't.
They are biased and corrupt. They run more on a system of capitalism than
our country as a whole does. They support their media darling, who actually
is none other than the aforementioned Barack Obama. He has their love. They
only thing they write more biased towards is controversy that can rope in
both Barack's fans and McCain's. That's two birds with one stone.
man, it's so easy to be jaded these days, isn't it? i've been having a
conversation with someone who has completely opted out of the system,
doesn't even vote. it's kind of sad. but i still think it's worth getting
involved, especially at the state and local level, like you say. that's
where every single vote counts even more, i think. as for the media, i was
referring specifically to their asking palin hard questions and not letting
her slide. i mean, it is total and complete bullshit that she is being
protected like this. you make a good point about the media in general,
though. it's definitely all about what sells, not necessarily about what
matters, and that's a real shame.
>I've not lost faith in Obama. I've lost faith in my fellow Americans.
I've lost faith in their ability to make intelligent, informed decisions
about their government.
what can i say, matthew? if mccain gets elected because he put palin on the
ticket, americans will have showed their true colors and it won't be
pretty. well, half of america will have shown themselves for the assholes
they are. the rest of will berate ourselves til kingdom come for not
working harder to get obama elected. i hope and pray that's not what
happens, but it's certainly not outside the realm of possibilities, is it?
*sigh*
Not that I mean to lower the tone but, um, I'm going to.
oh god! that was too funny. my favorite was the couple who did it together
and then he says, "it was awesome."
I am just still recovering from the Pailin announcement. WTF? It is
ridiculous and rather nauseating. I still have faith that Obama will take
it though...
me too, at least i'm back to my prior level of hopefulness, before all this
palin shit!
This might reassure you a little, my dear.
oh, jaysus. you know, i heard her say that but when you see it written
down, it's incredible how stupid it is. here, you might enjoy this article.
i don't know if you're familiar with the old show "the west wing," but this
is a fictional conversation between the president of the u.s. from the show
and obama. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/21/opinion/21dowd-sorkin.html?em
I wish President Obama would reach out more to the other side. If Obama did
that I'd have a lot more faith. How about this Obama. Talk directly with
the former administration. Invite them on a nice outing in
wilderness.....say a hunting trip. BE SURE TO TAKE DICK CHENEY WITH YOU!
