A while back, I did a post on unusual covers (see here), and several weeks ago the contrast podcast theme was all covers, too. Cover songs appear to be very popular these days.
Here are a few more that I like a lot. This is no joke, btw. I just realized it's April Fool's Day, but I am totally serious! I'm not that clever, to be honest.
Open Door --"Breathe (Pink Floyd Cover)" mp3 off Ultra.Chilled Vol. 04 (buy) (originally on What's Behind Door #1)
Emily Haines --"Expecting to Fly (Neil Young Cover)" mp3 Live on Minnesota Public Radio (I never really got this song until I heard her sing it--sorry, Neil)
Editors --"Feel Good, Inc. (Gorillaz Cover)" mp3 Live (This is one I could've submitted for that contrast podcast of covers--dang!)
And here's Pelle Carlberg's sweet cover of Elton John's "Rocket Man," live at a club in Udine, Italy. I love Pelle, have I mentioned that before? His album, Everything, Now! came out Wednesday, and it's a treasure. I highly recommend it. You can buy it at cd baby.
Stilll not sure how I feel about that Editors cover... part of me thinks
'simply inspired' but another part of me thinks 'no fun'.
i know what you mean. i think his vocals are why i like it so much. but
then again, i'm also a sucker for the drawning out and highlighting of the
poignancy that lies beneath even some of the most upbeat of songs. coz we
know it's hiding in there somewhere! ;-)
