These two bands have more in common aside from both being male/female duos. Both bands' music is rather haunting and pulsating at the same time, a lovely combination.
On their debut album, London's Vanilla Swingers weave an elaborate yet touching tale of finding, leaving and reclaiming life and love through the magic of time travel. A lot of their songs have a hushed quality about them, although they do let loose on occasion and the tension becomes more evident.
I wrote about Vanilla Swingers nearly two years ago, when this record was in its demo form. I'm really pleased to know that they've gotten it finished and have been able to get it out into the world so everyone else can share in the goodness.

The Atomica Project, which is out of Chicago, is a little more reality based but touches on a lot of the same relationship subjects. Their sound is more straightforward downtempo electronica, and I have to say Lauren Cheatham's vocals remind me very much of Tracey Thorn (Everything But the Girl) around the "Missing" era.
According to their website, the album Grayscale took nearly three years to complete as well, which I guess is one more thing the two bands have in common.
