Man, back in the day I always wanted a super soft, really faded jean jacket. Sad to say, I never had one. But this song might make up for it. It opens with a wonderful retro riff and takes me back to a time when to own a jean jacket was my heart's desire. Listen:
The Trolleyvox--"Jean Jacket" mp3 off Your Secret Safe (buy)
The Trolleyvox are from Philadelphia and I'm in love with their warm, golden sound. They make me want to lie down under the trees on a crisp fall afternoon while I watch the sun play with the few leaves that are left and feel it on my face. Very nice stuff.
On Oct. 16th they released a double album but each disc has a different name. One is called Your Secret Safe, and it's the more uptempo, full-band one. The other, Luzerne, is a gorgeous acoustic offering with low strings, gentle guitars and understated vocals. They're both beautiful and they fit together like two sides of the same coin.
The opener of Your Secret Safe is a bouyant song that sets the tone for the rest of the album, with some guitar work that's really very good. In fact, it's actually the guitars more than anything else that's drawing me into this music.
The Trolleyvox--"I Call On You" mp3 off Your Secret Safe (buy)
They have a very organic sound, which to me means that there's not a lot of production wizardry going on, and that if you were to see them live it would sound just as good as the record. Here are two tracks off the acoustic Luzerne, both with a slightly mournful yet steady feel.
The Trolleyvox--"Intermission" mp3 off Luzerne (buy)
The Trolleyvox--"Stomping Grounds" mp3 off Luzerne (buy)
I'd love to catch their show sometime soon. I checked their myspace for tour dates, etc., but they don't have another show scheduled until Dec., so I guess I'll have to wait.
Happy Thanks Giving !!! It's funny, all goes quite in blog land round this
time. That jean jacket track is brill, really Byrds/REM like. Have you
heard i love my jean jacket by The Chills? Also, if you like The Trolleyvox
you will really like Salim Nourallah, listen to the track 1978.

it, but that's it. and i'll check out the salim nouallah. thanks. as far as
today goes, the entire country celebrates this holiday, unlike christmas or
easter, so practically everyone is off work and visiting relatives. very
slow day indeed! : )
Eating lots of turkey in November? How weird! You foreigners freak me out
with your strange ways. But while this November turkey eating may be
mysterious to me, I nonetheless want to wish you a very happy Thanksgiving.
Enjoy!
thank you for your good wishes, kind foreign man. and yes, we do have some
strange customs in these parts, don't we? : ) mmmm, i can't wait to indulge
in the custom of pumpkin pie eating that's yet to come.
Please don't burst, we like you whole!!
