My theory about Gruff Rhys album Candylion is that it's kind of like candy: in small portions it's tasty and delicious and makes me feel good, but in mass quantities it might not be so nourishing. Of course, I've only heard three songs from it. What do you think?

He's appearing in Los Angeles with Her Space Holiday on Oct. 3rd at CA Rec Center Studios. At first this struck me as a rather odd pairing, as Her Space Holiday tends toward the melancholy and dark side of things and GR is most definitely more upbeat. However, I soon discovered the rationale behind the pairing: Super Furry Animals (Rhys's full-time gig) did a remix of HSH's tune "Sleepy California" on the 2004 album Young Machines Remixed. Now it all makes sense.
However, have you heard the most recent Her Space Holiday offering? It's kind of weird but intriguing, and definitely more on the cheerier side than anything off The Young Machines.

Then there's this, which was up on the HSH myspace page for a while, but is apparently by his other project, called XOXO Panda. Unfortunately, I don't know the whole name of the song because it won't show up. It's even stranger than "Whistle While You Wait," but I like it too.
