I love when this happens. A couple of weeks ago I got an email from a band asking me to listen to their songs and maybe write a few lines about them on my blog. I checked out their myspace page and was delighted with what I heard. This is the kind of stuff that makes blogging so much fun.
The band is called Tornister and they're from Germany. They're unsigned but working on songs in the studio. The list of bands they like could very easily be lifted from mine, which probably explains why I like their music so much. Plus they've got a dreamy, layered sound, which is very often what I'm drawn to as well.

In other news, I thought I'd point you toward some bands that other folks have been highlighting. Linda at speed of dark has been on a roll lately, and you should definitely check out all her posts for this week, as she's enthusiastic about at least eight noteworthy bands. I'll make it easy for you: 1, 2, 3.
You know, when I first started my blog, I often wondered how other bloggers found out about all the new music out there. Now that I'm more established, I've learned their secret--very often, it finds you!
Wow, those guys are great. I love Linda's intro's on contrast, cool blog. I
took my email off my page cause i started getting loads of random crap sent
to it. Also i feel really bad when i don't write about a band that has
emailed me. I can't lie with the guilt, hee hee
& your readers reach as far out from Singapore too! Lurve your blog. Keep
it up!
ross--you're so funny--you can't take the guilt! i know what you mean,
though. i do get lots more stuff than i ever get a chance to write about.
but i figure they know they're taking a chance when they sent it out, you
know?
Wow, Marcy! Thanks for the nice words, guys. I used to think I might run
out of bands to write about, but now I feel like the real problem is
finding time to write about all the bands I like without having it take
over my entire life. I'm struggling to find that balance.
hehe pretty good stuff indeed. Very rarely do I get something sent to me
that I post, I sometimes think I just feel obligated that way. But
sometimes you get a gem such as Tornister and it certainly brings a smile
to your face. ;-)
you da man, linda, you da man! : ) i have a question for you--how do you
get your avatar to show up in my comments? i can't even figure out how to
italicize or put in a link.
About the avatar picture: when I first made a comment on your blog I had to
set up a profile with a login and password. Go to the Profile link up at
the top of your page and either log in or create a login. Then there is a
little place to click to upload a photo. I used this peeking kitty-face
rather than the mouse-batting kitty gif I have on MySpace because it makes
a better-looking small picture.
that is so good to know! i think when i first created my profile i had no
idea how to upload a picture and so have not ever revisited the idea, plus
i had no idea it would show up in the comments. thanks. : )
The links to Linda were great. Oakley Hall was just the right dose of
savory I needed after too much indie-pop sweetness elsewhere. You know I
think I've experienced a greater variety of musical styles in the past year
of hanging around music bloggers than in all of my entire previous
existence. I'm not sure if that's good or pathetic, but there it is. ;-)
