The Lost Art of Conversation

posted Monday, 29 December 2008

Contrary to popular practice, having a conversation is a two-way street. You say something and then I say something. When I'm talking you actually listen and then respond accordingly and vice versa. It's not a monologue and it's not simply an opportunity for you to vomit a stream of words that have nothing to do with me, the occasion or the subject at hand. Everybody wants to be heard, I understand that, and that's precisely my point. You get heard by me and I get heard by you, which means you have to shut up every once in a while.

I had a stressful weekend, can you tell?

The Lodger--"The Conversation" mp3 off Life Is Sweet (buy)

Hymns--"Stop Talking" mp3 off Brother/Sister (buy)
