I am going way out on a limb here and declaring I know what one of the keys to happiness is. Understand that I myself do not possess it, but I'm pretty sure I know what it looks like.
OK. I think one key to being happy is actually wanting what you can and do have and not longing for what you can't and don't have. So often we spend so much time searching/looking/hoping for something else that we lose sight of what's right in front of us.
It's really a pretty simple idea. Of course for me, it's not quite as easy to do as it is to say, but realizing it--really understanding it--is a good first step to getting there, don't you think?
I also think it's probably not possible to feel or do in totality with your life, but I think maybe you can get closer to it by acknowledging those things that you are satisfied and content with that are already present. At the very least you can edge toward it. Baby steps, you know?

p.s. For those of you who came looking for new music today (I've been on a new-music-for-Fridays kick), I hope you'll be happy with what you've found and won't long too much for what isn't here.
'I do not want what I have not got' is a good key to happiness, but if I
tell you that my new favourite is 'i have found something even better and
although it's very early it feels very very real and although it's going to
mean change and pain and difficulty it's utterly, utterly wonderful' will
you still talk to me? And would I be terribly shallow if I was worried
about whether I still liked sad songs? Adam is happy, very very happy.

crash--there is no judgment here, only acceptance and happiness for you and
what you've found. perhaps you can put the sad songs in your pocket for a
rainy day and just focus on the happy, happy, happy. :)
