This is a big old thank you to several bloggers who have turned me on to some great songs lately. I would love to take credit for finding them myself, but I can't in good conscience post them and not say where I found them.
Girl in a Coma--Wow, these girls are incredibly talented. The lead singer's voice is amazing. Juan from Sounds From my Garage wrote about them a while back and ever since then I have been captivated by this song. You should read his post and watch the video he has up of them performing. It's really wonderful and full of a beguiling energy that pulls you right in.

KaiserCartel came to me courtesy of the Duke of Straw over at The Late Greats, who is also an occasional contrast podcast contributor. He picked the song "Okay" for the best of 2008 (so far) podcast last week and I fell in love with it immediately. I think the vocals have a lot to do with it. I am such a sucker for a great voice and those male/female harmonies.
KaiserCartel--"Okay" mp3 off March Forth (buy--comes out June 10th)
Kaki King is from New York and I found this song through Squashed from Bricolage Fantasy, who found her music over at Undomondo. She has a very low-key yet complex acoustic guitar-based sound with slightly Laura Veirs-ish vocals, but that's OK, as the music more than makes up for that. I just wish I could figure out what this song is about. Every time I think I have, I change my mind. Is she kissing him off? Is she angry with him for leaving? He doesn't seem so bad, after all he did put that note in her pocket before he left.
Kaki King--"Life Being What it Is" mp3 off Dreaming of Revenge (buy)
OK, this is not a song but you must read this post by Rahawa over at The Pop Filter. It's one of the funniest things I've read in a long time, not to mention it's the kind of writing I aspire to and will never, ever achieve.
And with that, I bid you Good Journey . . .
I love Kaki and her album "Legs To Make Us Longer" was one of my favorites
of 2004. THat album was mainly instrumental, so it's taking me some time
to appreciate the vocal parts in the newer releases. But what am amazing
guitarist.
