Statistical Odds and Ends

posted Tuesday, 19 February 2008

I love to watch my blog statistics. It's kind of an obsession. One of my favorites to watch is which countries readers come from.

The U.S. is always first, far and away the largest number of hits come from there. Usually, Canada is next, with the rest of the top five rounded out by either France, the U.K., Sweden, Germany or Japan.

Well this month it's different. The U.S. is still first, but Poland is second. It's beating Canada by a fairly significant amount. I can't figure out why. Not that I don't think the indie scene is alive and well in Poland, it's just that it's not that big of a country, you know?

If you have an idea as to why this might be, feel free to leave it in the comments. I'd really love to know.

Can't offer any insight on the Polish invasion, but can certainly relate to the stat obsession!

don't underestimate the musical taste there...even when the wall was up ppl like nick cave and tom waits had a huge follwing....i only know poles with a distinct taste and a love for sad bastard music. being a (west) german i travelled a lot to poland since the early nineties. and don't frget it was the polish solidarnosc movement that started to crack the iron curtain in the long run.

cindy--you wouldn't believe the places i get hits from--bahrain, kazakstan, nepal. i think it's so cool how the internet connects us all.

boris--i laughed pretty hard at your term "sad bastard music." i guess the poles and i do have a lot in common, coz that just about sums up my taste in music! :)

Poland is a fairly big country though, (apparently bigger population than canada anyway) Didn't Andy Warhol come from a Polish family?

Neway, Sweden says peace out

hello sweden.....good old andy warhol(a) (the name his parents adopted after coming to the US...originally it was spelled Varchola) has no polish heritage. his family came from what is today slovakia. when his dad emigrated in 1914 it belonged to the austrian-hungarian empire. cheers, boris

I'm another stat anorak - and one of the countries I get loads of hits from is Japan (but that's no real surprise given my own obsession with 80s indie-pop from Scotland.)

I get the very occasional visitor from Poland. Maybe you've a stalker out there......

Oh and one final tale from stats. I sometimes look to see where they were referred from. A posting that was entitled 'Erotic Animals' still to this day gets all sorts of weird and wonderful and no doubt stunned visitors surfing their way into TVV via Google...

all mp3s are for sampling purposes only. you like it? you buy it. you want me to take it down? let me know. and for the uninitiated, if you wish to listen to a song, click on the little blue arrows and they will stream. thanks, your host and music lover, mjrc.
