Sometimes things simply slip by, you know what I mean? Could be there was too much going on at the time to pay attention or I wasn't ready for it when it presented itself. That happens to me all the time with music, actually.
So I apologize to anyone who pointed out New Buffalo's album Somewhere, Anywhere when it came out in August. Somehow it slipped right by me. I finally "heard" it when I was searching for songs for yesterday's post.
It's so beautiful. She sings in a very sweet, lilting voice and there's a lot of wonderful piano in her gorgeously layered sound. Sally Seltmann (aka New Buffalo) is from Melbourne, Australia, and this is her second album.
New Buffalo--"Cheer Me Up Thank You" mp3 off Somewhere, Anywhere (buy)
New Buffalo--"Emotional Champ" mp3 off Somewhere, Anywhere
If these two songs don't convince you she's worth listening to, go to her myspace and listen to "I've Got You and You've Got Me," "Misery and Mountains," and "Recovery". That ought to do it.
And check out this fun fact: Sally wrote the song "1234," which has become rather a hit for Feist. So it turns out I liked her music even before I knew who she was.
