"Travel at your own risk." When we came home from our vacation last week, we saw several of these signs on one of the main roads near our house. It kind of freaked me out. I mean, we only went away for 5 days. What the hell could have happened to the road?
Turns out they were going to be applying fresh oil to the pavement and that was what all the fuss was about. Nothing dire at all.
What does this have to do with music? Nothing. Maybe I'm trying to say, "Listen at your own risk." It's been a while since I've posted any new stuff, so I have a whole pile of songs to share. Nothing oily, though, I can promise you that!
Lenka --"Gravity Rides Everything (Modest Mouse Cover)" mp3 off Woodstock Sessions (unmastered/unmixed) I love this. But then again, I'm quite partial to Sun Kil Moon's Modest Mouse covers as well. This is lovely and relaxed and she has a pretty, lilting voice. It sounds the way Isaac Brock might play it were he all alone at 3 a.m. and no one else was listening. Lenka's debut album, We Will Not Grow Old, is coming out Sept. 23.
Embarrassing Fruits--"First Time" mp3 off The First Time EP (buy--comes out Aug. 5th) Sometimes the combination of snippets of words, a singer's voice and a catchy riff are all it takes for me to like a song, and that's the case with this. Just enjoy it.
The Physics of Meaning--"No More Sleeping in the Shadows" mp3 off Daytrotter Session (download) I didn't realize they had a new album coming out this fall. It's called Snake Charmer and Destiny at the Stroke of Midnight. I discovered this information when I was investigating Embarrassing Fruits!
The Dandy Warhols--"The Legend of the Last of the Outlaw Truckers AKA The Ballad of Sheriff Shorty" mp3 off Earth to the Dandy Warhols (buy) Yep, I think this album's a keeper. Not sure where it goes from here, having started with "The World The People Together (Come On)," but I'm going along for the ride--traveling at my own risk, you might say!
Diggin' the Dandys and the Embarrassing Fruits (what a name!)
the embarrassing fruits would have worked for the ridiculous band name
contrast podcast episode!
That Warhol lot really are something else... feel the need to go watch that
DiG! film again now... :) How you keeping M? Sounds like you had a good
trip? x
