Selected Sunday Songs

posted Sunday, 19 April 2009

I know, Friday is supposed to be "new music" day around here but as much as I'd like to follow some sort of schedule, it ain't happening that way! So best intentions aside, here are a few new songs that have caught my ear of late.

Spain Colored Orange--"Who Am I" mp3 off Sneaky Like a Villain (buy) I am most definitely a sucker for a swinging horn bit and this sucks me right in every time I hear it. I also like the line "To think I've wasted all of my time" which they joyously repeat throughout this poppy tune. Spain Colored Orange are from Houston and their album Sneaky Like a Villain comes out May 10th.

Run Toto Run--"Alice (Rod Thomas Remix)" mp3 off Plastic Gold EP (buy--looks like this won't be out until early June) This song is on the electronic minimalist side, instrumentally. The focus is on her voice and rightly so. Run Toto Run are from Manchester, England and their lead singer's vocals are clear, bright and pretty, which I really love. This track is remixed by one of my new faves, Rod Thomas, so I kind of decided I liked it before I even heard it, and I was right!

All of Us/None of Us--"Whatcha Gonna Do?" mp3 off Arcane and Abel EP (buy) These guys are from L.A. and they've definitely passed my "three-times" rule (if a song comes up three times on the ipod and I'm compelled to check out who it is, then I'm hooked). I like the strength and rock feel of the guitar and vocals although they're not flat-out rockers. Think an updated, more acoustic Jane's Addiction. Sorta.
