**This is a repost from May 29th. I'm not feeling quite as depressed these days, which is a really good thing. But I still love these songs, and they can still make me cry.**
Sometimes I feel like an emotional roller coaster, musically speaking, and I'm in a bit of a down phase right now. As a result, I am compelled to share the songs that are feeding the ache, so to speak.
Some may debate (dispute?) including this Andrew Bird song in a mix of sad songs, but it makes me cry every time. When the female vocalist joins him and they sing about snacks--I feel like they are encouraging someone who won't be with them much longer and painting a picture of heaven. I know, I'm screwy.
Andrew Bird--
"Tables and Chairs" mp3 off
Mysterious Production of Eggs (
buy)
Oh my god, this song hits below the belt. "Why would you think of me, when you were not the one in love, when you were not the dreamer, when you were just the dream? I'm under no illusions as to what I meant to you. But you made an impression, and sometimes I still feel the bruise . . ."
The Mountain Goats--
"Sometimes I Still Feel the Bruise" mp3 off
Babylon Springs EP (
buy)
Not a lot of lyrical variety in this song, just the oft-repeated sentiment "Lately, I don't feel so hot . . . ," some dying guitars, a lonely drum, and a lot of reverb.
Bedroom Walls--
"Winter, That's All" mp3 off
I Saw You Coming Back to Me (
buy)
I can't describe this song without ripping off what Brian said at
bow+arrows, so read that. And know that the strings in this will tear your heart apart.
The National--
"About Today" mp3 off
Cherry Tree EP (
buy)
Of course, all three
Jackson Browne songs I previously posted qualify for this mix (
see here), as do both
Audrey songs (
see here).
