Today's theme on the contrast podcast is "bands with ridiculous names." Sounds simple, right? I mean, there are tons of bands out there with names that you either snigger at, outright laugh at or say, wtf? about, so how hard could it be?
Well it took me until the absolute deadline to make a choice. I felt a lot of pressure to find a really goofy name, and then when I'd come across one that was silly enough, the song would suck. I couldn't bring myself to submit what I consider to be a less-than-worthy song, so it took me a long time to find something.
In fact, I'd given up, but Tim knew just how to encourage me to make that final choice, and so I went with The The, which, after all, is one of the dumbest band names I've ever heard, but they made such wonderful music that it fit the bill perfectly. I picked "Slow Emotion Replay" from their 1993 album Dusk. I hope you enjoy it.

The The--"Slow Emotion Replay" mp3 off Dusk (buy)
Runners up included !!! (what were they thinking--how do you even pronounce that?), The Fruity Penguins, The Heartworms (both of whose songs fell into the aforementioned not-quite-up-to-snuff category), and Team Turnip. I know there are tons more out there, but I had a deadline so I couldn't research this indefinitely. There comes a point at which you simply must make a decision.
!!!--"Yadnus" mp3 off Myth Takes (buy)
Team Turnip--"I Want to Be Someone When I Die" mp3 (They appear to be unsigned. This is on their myspace and it's quite lovely.)
chk chk chk! Or pow pow pow! or Bam Bam Bam! Or what my friend calls them:
Exclamation Point, Exclamation Point, Exclamation Point! (must be said at
the top of your lungs)
chk chk chk is what i've always heard. it's still a stupid name! : )
