I was sent two tracks by Teitur last week and I have to say they are the perfect teasers to pique my interest in his new album, The Singer.
"Catherine the Waitress" has got everything that I love about a Teitur song. He's a romantic who definitely has some sadness in his heart, yet he doesn't feel sorry for himself. Instead he mixes hope and humor with the recognition of pain and a decent dose of reality. He alludes to what he's really dealing with under the surface and combines that with buoyant horns and a gleeful admiration of the woman he's singing about. And he does it all with an exceptionally catchy tune.
Catherine the waitress / If you only knew where my mind is / Is there anything you'd like / If I could only tell you / You haven't even noticed me, but oh you are so good to me
Catherine the waitress / I don't intend to seduce you / I'm not a resident, I'm not a regular, but if I lived here this would be my favorite bar / Oh cross my heart and hope to die, I'm not drunk and I'm not high
Oh the accident happened one year ago, according to the lines in my hand / The requiem is playing behind my eyes but you don't see it, Catherine, do you? Do you?

The other song, "We Still Drink the Same Water," is a darker look at separated lovers. I think the title could mean a couple of things, primarily that that he still feels the same way he did about her when they were together, even though time has passed and things aren't the same between them. It also features some haunting horns that set the forlorn tone perfectly.

He's coming to Philadelphia May 2nd and I was going to wait and ask my husband if he wants to go but I went ahead and bought the tickets anyway. He'll thank me later, I'm certain.
Oh, this is great, since I LOVE TEITUR! I was stuck on "Sleep With The
LIghts On" for weeks and weeks a couple of years back! Thanks, Marcy!
nice post marcy, it's some good stuff. i'm a bit jealous, i'd like to see
him live.
nat--i did not know you were a teitur fan--very cool! : ) his album poetry
and airplanes is really good and i think it actually got some airplay.
Was at KT Tunstall concert last night. Had never heard of Teitur before,
but he was playing at the start and wow - he is just fab. A truely
talented and soulful individual. I was blown away listening to him.
Absolutley wonderful; He performed Catherine the waitress first, can't
wait for it to be released for sale. He did 'the singer' last - no music
just singing, and what a voice. Have come home and bought his album, am
definately a new fan. Enjoy your trip away and seeing him perform.
