Two crappy things happened to my car in two days. The first was pretty scary, actually. There I was, minding my own business driving home around 7:30 at night, when something large and orange flew over and in front of my car and got lodged underneath. My first thought was that someone threw a pumpkin at my car. I mean, what else could it be?
Well, turns out it was an orange plastic gas can! I think it could have flown off a passing car, but in retrospect, neither explanation makes much sense. Regardless, it was frightening. Even more so in retrospect after I knew what it was, coz I started thinking about how it could have exploded and I could have been toast! Yeesh. I called the cops, but they thought I was crazy. Which I probably am, but this was definitely not an ordinary occurrence!
The second event was much more mundane, but also a pain in the ass. Driving into town yesterday I started to hear this funny sound from under the car, and I thought it was something to do with the "incident" of the previous night. It kept getting louder so I pulled over. I checked under the front of the car, but it looked fine. Then I looked at my tires. Yep, a flat.
I didn't get upset about this, either, just calmly called the person I was headed to see, then called my husband, and by that time a service-type truck had stopped on the side of the road and the man was headed toward me. I was hoping he was there to help, and by god he was.
What a nice man. He just happened to be a mechanic, so he was the right person at the right place at the right time. In fact, he had the whole thing changed and fixed before my husband even arrived. He wouldn't take any money, of course, so I think I'm going to write a letter to the company he works for and tell them what a kind thing he did for me.
And now I have four brand new tires.

I have a friend who does the change a tire thing for stranded women. He'd
never tell but his wife spilled the beans.
Let's hear it for random acts of kindness!!
"It has to WANT to change"! That's classic. And funny...I was just
reading about the 20 or 25 things every man needs to know. Yep..Change a
Flat was on the list.
That was one...of a quite a few...I could cross off my list. (Doesn't mean
I like to do it, though!)
As always...love your blog!!
Props!
jag--it certainly did restore my faith in the decency of people, especially
after the events of the prior evening! i felt really bad for him, too, coz
he had to get down on the ground and he got all dirty . . . i'm about to
write that letter to his boss. : )
And just when I think that eveyone in this world is selfish and/or
ignorant, a story like this is told. Awesome.
I totally thought I posted a comment here yesterday but I guess it didn't
go through...Damn! It was a long one too.
