It's a bit of a mish-mash today, but that's the way it goes sometimes.
Firstly, today's contrast podcast is the second of a two-part cd swap episode and you can listen to it here. I dearly love the contrast podcast, as you know, and when you combine it with a cd swap such as this, it puts me in my happy place.
I'm also always happy to do an interview for blogfresh radio, although I get unduly nervous about it beforehand. There's no good reason for it, as Bill, the show's producer extraordinaire, always puts me at ease and makes it extremely easy to talk about whatever it is I'm talking about, but I still get anxious. I suppose a certain amount of nerves is good, just like a little bit of stage fright can give a performance an energy boost. It's just not good for my stomach!
I talked about Devotchka this week and basically reiterated what I said in my review of A Mad & Faithful Telling. But you can take a listen to the show right here if you'd like to hear me declare my love out loud.
This leaves me in an odd place today, as my cd swap pick appeared in last week's podcast and I've already posted a couple Devotchka tracks, so I'm not sure what else to say. The song I mention in the blogfresh broadcast, "The Clockwise Witness," is one of my favorites on the record, although truth be told I love each and every song on it, so it's really not fair to say one is a favorite over any other. That's sort of like picking your favorite child, you know?
So let's switch gears completely and get funky. Jamie Lidell's new album, Jim, is coming out April 28, and this is the promo song. It's fantastic. I've also found an even more-funked-up remix of it, so check them both out. Not surprisingly, I can't decide which version of this track I like better either.
Jamie Lidell--"Figured Me Out" mp3 off Jim (buy)
Jamie Lidell--"Figured Me Out (LA Garage Mix)" mp3
Jamie's touring his ass off in support of this release, so you should see him if you can. I hear he puts on a great show. Tour dates here and here.
I am exaclty the same with BlogFresh interviews but agree that Bill is
great. I got to hang out with them at SXSW and had a great time.
Loving that Jamie Lidell tune, especially the remix. Kinda reminds me a bit
of Ben Westbeech.
Cheers
good, i'm glad i'm not the only one that gets nervous! i read some of
bill's account of his time at sxsw and it looks like it was a
blast--tiring, but a lot of fun. i'm not familiar with ben westbeech, i'll
have to check him out. : )
:)

wow I listened to the first few seconds of Jamie Lidell's choice and I felt
transported to LA in the 80's when the rage was reviving the 70's in
several clubs.
this reminds of that time (a time when the 70's were not taken as seriously
as in the period itself and did not have the dark undertone of that time)
and it also reminds a lot of jamiroquai.
