Comment From Rafter Himself

posted Sunday, 22 October 2006
This has to be one of the most rewarding things about blogging, namely, hearing from an artist that you wrote about. Several weeks ago I wrote a post (see here) about how I wish I could play the drums and the songs that make me feel that way. Well, the other day Rafter himself left me a comment, which includes a great explanation of the drumming/recording technique he used on the song "Bicycle." Here's the comment:
hey drum love! this is rafter who made "bicycle" here to say that it's not a drum machine, it's just me playing drums, but then i put the recording through some severe gating effects (so that only the loudest parts of the sound get through, and then it gets cut off). it's the same drum beat that you hear when the tom beat comes in, just processed like that. my friend justin pinkerton did some really neat drumming on my new album "Music for Total Chickens" and you can hear some at my myspace page.... thanks, love, rafter www.myspace.com/rafterroberts
Is that not the coolest? To know that he read it and cared enough to take the time to leave a comment really makes me feel good. So go buy his album 10 Songs, which features the song "Bicycle," and visit his myspace, which has 4 songs from his next album on it, including this tune, "Love Time Now Please" mp3. And watch this short video of his little boy, coz it's about the cutest thing ever.
