I think I'm experiencing a little bit of post-election withdrawal syndrome. I feel strangely subdued. I don't think I realized just how much energy and emotion I had wrapped up in this thing and now that it's over, I'm kind of wasted.
I'm happy, don't get me wrong, but my motivation to do other things is rather low and I almost feel sad. Kind of like when Christmas is over. You're happy with what you got but all that anticipation and excitement has ended and now you're left with the wrapping paper and taking down the tree and it's not the same, somehow. I'm having trouble transitioning.
I have a suggestion for getting through this lull, however, and it's even voting related. The contrast podcast is compiling the second annual "Festive Fifty Countdown" and you can be a part of it, even if you've never contributed a song to the podcast. (See here and here for links to last year's episodes.)
The man in charge of the contrast podcast, Tim, wants your top fifty songs of the year for the end-of-the-year extravaganza. All you need to do is make a list and send it to him by Nov. 16th. He'd love 50 songs from everyone, but if you can't think of that many, even 10 will do. Send your selections to: contrast.podcast@gmail.com, with your favorite track at number 1. Once he gets them all in, he will send out a list that we will then vote on, and from those votes he will generate the final list.
Frankly I can't believe it's already time to start thinking about year-end lists, but it will be Christmas before you know it, so I guess I ought to get started. Plus it will give me something to look forward to between now and January 20th.

Nope, just a post-election sigh of relief. No more ADS!!
Hey, mjrc! I definitely have the post-election blues, ironically since I'm
an Obama-man myself. It's more about the lack of constant news updates,
the lack of tension, and the lack of uncertainty, even though all of that
was making me batty at the end! I couldn't believe that by 11 PM EST, when
McCain gave his concession speech, it was over. Now I'm trying to focus on
work, and getting my blog migrated (part of it, anyway, a fun distraction).
Once I get caught up on my sleep, I can start focusing on my top 50 list.
It's going to be tough this year since I was so out-of-the-loop! Cheers,
WRE
nat--you got that devotchka part right! speaking of lists, when i first
read tim's instructions, i thought he wanted 100 songs from each of us, and
i was like, there is no way i can put together 100 songs and rank them! so
i'm relieved it's only 50.
