Way, way back in the day, I was a fact-checker at a magazine. Mostly I just double-checked how to spell people's names and their titles and inconsequential things like that, but occasionally I had to confirm actual facts. Well, I just read some rather exciting news about Cassettes Won't Listen. According to this, he's contributing to the soundtrack of the new Indiana Jones movie. The thing is, I can't find any other source that corroborates this information. All the other sites that mention it link back to that original post, which itself doesn't have any attribution. It's driving the journalist in me nuts.
Oh well!
Do you remember when I was obsessed with Cassettes Won't Listen? Well, I was. A little over a year ago, I guess. I couldn't get enough of him, his remixes, covers or original songs. It would be extremely cool if the above news was true. Then everyone could fall in love with his particular brand of indietronic goodness.
He released an album of original material, Small-Time Machine, on March 11th. He also has a free covers EP, One Alternative, for download at his website. This is the only song I've heard off Small-Time Machine and I like it. I usually have a lot more to say about why, etc., but I've decided to just let you decide what you think instead.

There are two remixes of "Paper Float" for download at RCRDLBL, but they expressly ask that you don't rehost the file, so you'll have to go there yourself to get them.
Every song on One Alternative is a keeper, done in his singular style. My favorites are "The Freed Pig" and "Butter of 69." Check them out.

He's got a couple of shows coming up, in Manhattan and Long Island, so if you're in New York over the next couple weeks, you could see him in action. He's planning a summer tour, so be on the look-out for that as well. Maybe by then we'll be able to verify whether he's part of the Indiana Jones machine or not.
Hate to burst your bubble, but this looks like a fake. These things are all
over YouTube. People put songs over various clips. It's a good mix though!
i think you're right about this being a fake. oh well, at least i didn't
claim it was true 100%! cya is the next most important facet of journalism
after checking your facts. ;-) althoug i must admit now i feel a little
dirty . . .
Music Slut's post title was misleading. It would be cool and weird if it
did happen.
thanks, andy. i feel like less of a gullible soul now . . . : )
I can see why you like these songs, or at least the 1 I am listening to now
(Freed Pig) - hooks you immediately. They remind me a bit of LCD
Soundsystem. How did I miss this last year? Very cool indeed.
it's funny you say that, wre, because i submitted "the freed pig" to the
"covers" contrast podcast and you told me at the time how much you liked
it! so you didn't miss it last year, you just forgot you found it! ;-)
Well, at least I'm consistent! Also, looks like Small Machines is
available on eMusic. Now I will put a small amount of money where my mouth
is.
there's a neat interview with cassettes won't listen (j drake) at
uncensored interview..watch the clip where he talks about his first song
"chia pet" -- it's great!

very cool! thank you for sharing. i checked out your site and it's great. i
love jason drake. i'd love to see his live show some day. :)
I love Jason Drake!! I think that he really is an amazing artist. He is so
unique and creative. It just blows my mind. But I am upset that he won't be
on the soundtrack but I think people will be going crazy for him soon. He
is just too awesome!! I actually found some dope video interviews that he
did. People should check them out.
Here's a funny thing: I just came back to grab a copy of The Freed Pig,
because, as you know, I really like it. To my surprise, it is a Sebadoh
cover. I missed out on Sebadoh somehow in the 90's, but they're back in
the news right now b/c of a 15th anniversary CD that has been released. I
was just listening to a bit of Sebadoh today, in fact. Small world, eh?
