Still having troubles here. What kinds of troubles? Well, I'm having to use my husband's computer, so 1) I can't access my music; 2) it's a Linux box, so it's incompatible with my editor and I can only intermittently input new text into my blog entries; 3) I can't download anything new to listen to; 4) I'm really hungry. OK, that last one doesn't have anything to do with the others, but it's true.
So any posts I put up in the near-term will be one-shot deals wherein I can't edit them after I save them. Scary scenario.
That said, I've found some stuff worth sharing. For instance, dig
this blog entry about
Cloud Cult. Oh, and I have it directly from Craig Minowa that they will be playing in Philadelphia Nov. 1st at
World Cafe Live.
Tickets are $7. Bear in mind that last time I saw them it was free, so they are definitely coming up in the world! Also, I hope to have some news on their new album soon, so check back for that.
Here's something else that I've been thinking about. I don't think anyone I actually know--in the sense that I've met them in the flesh--reads my blog (aside from my husband, that is, and he gets it from an RSS feed--does that count? I mean, he doesn't actually seek it out, it comes to him. I suppose I'm being picky here.) Is it weird that it's like that? Or is it simply a reflection of my own out-of-the-mainstream proclivities and interests? I am, as far as I know, the only one of my friends who actually cares quite this much about new music. I guess I shouldn't dwell on such things too long, I'll only depress myself. It just doesn't matter. It just doesn't matter! IT JUST DOESN'T MATTER! (Anybody get that movie reference? Anybody??)
Here's the last thing. I was all set to contribute to this week's
Contrast Podcast when my computer died. Yes, I could've done it BEFORE it died, but I am the world's foremost procrastinator, so I lost my chance. The theme was political songs, and I had a great one picked out, but I hesitated and now am out of luck. To try to make up for it, I point you to this commentary by MSNBC's
Keith Olbermann, which he made in response to the drubbing Bill Clinton got when he "freaked out" on Fox last week.
Watch it here, and for god's sake, if you aren't registered to vote, do it today (deadline is Oct. 10th in PA). And then let's vote in a new congress that will actually do its job and demand accountability from this wretchedly incompetent administration. Apathy and inaction will only lead to more catastrophic results.
Perhaps you should pray for a quick resolution to my computer woes, too, or else you may be subjected to more of these rants! (I kid, I kid my faithful readers. Sorta.)

Anthology (1968-1985) (buy) This one's for GW.
Cloud Cult--
"State of the Union" mp3 off
Aurora Borealis (
buy) So's this.
Cloud Cult--
"Moving to Canada" mp3 off
Advice from the Happy Hippopotamus (
buy) This is the song I was going to submit to the podcast. Pay attention to the images, like the "eagle with one right wing" and how it basically says we have only ourselves to blame for the mess we're in.
