I of course have no right to comment on PMS other than as an occasional victim, but seriously, is there ever a good time? I guess if you were about to get into a fist fight, or were sitting down to a big family dinner with a bunch of relatives of the opposite political persuasion - those might be interesting occasions to be PMS-ing. I'm think "Pass My Shotgun" here.

So, I just downloaded that album (albums is more like it) from eMusic this morning. Is it any good? What do you think of it?

i think you might be right, there is no *good* time for it, but some times are definitely worse than others! : ) oh, i love the sufjan christmas albums. right now i'm listening a whole lot to no. 5, and also to no. 3. "get behind me. santa!" is really good. the whole thing is such a great mix of traditional carols and his highly original songs. i think i'm going to listen to no. 2 next. i hope you like it.

I had a bunch of smartass comments about this, but ultimately decided discretion is the better part of valour in such circumstances.

How about we see if I can get a laugh going:

Did you ever watch that British sci-fi comedy, Red Dwarf starring Craig Charles? There's this one episode where a female crew member is very cranky. The robot character (who doesn't totally understand human ways) is confused, so the other crew members explain to him that it is her "special time of the month."

Cut to the exterior door of the female crew member's quarters. She walks in, the robot yells "Surprise!" and throws some confetti. The quarters are decorated with party balloons and a big banner reading "HAVE A HAPPY PERIOD!"

She then explains the true nature of the "special time" and the robot feels very guilty and forlorn. "You should be out riding horses or playing tennis in white slacks, but now I've gone and ruined it for you!"

So here's wishing that your special time works out to be a happy time, one way or another.

Oh the joy.

Mentok: I wonder if that's where Always got heir slogan from? I loved Red Dwarf.

Speaking of being a considerate, empathic spouse, I remembered last night what I was trying to think of: that the hot flashes of menopause are really "power surges".

:)

I've never seen Red Dwarf, but I am really becoming suspicious that there's a strong Canadian element to my personality. What does this mean!?!

And, I'm digging these SS Christmas albums! I was in the mood for holiday music with a twist. Thanks for the post!

YEUCH, UNCLEAN UNCLEAN! I think that's how you're supposed to respond, isn't it?

Enjoy the Festive Period. What? Oh, sorry.

Happy Christmas Marcy, hope that warm trickle down the inside of your leg doesn't spoil Christmas dinner.

I really am going to have to stop now, aren't I? A big hug from a certainly slipperly green gentleman, and I do genuinely hope it all gets a bit better in time to enjoy the festive cavorting. It's been a genuine pleasure reading your stuff this year Marcy dear, so thanks and Happy Christmas from the other side of the pond.

wre--as much as i hate the pms, i am DEFinitely not ready for the power surges, thank you very much! ;-) juan's always telliing me i must really be from seattle, so maybe in our former lives we lived in the northwest or something?

matthew, matthew, matthew. don't be silly! it's funny, all day i kept thinking about "unclean, unclean," and found myself contemplating the rules and regulations of orthodox judaism. :) and thank you so much for your kind words. i feel exactly the same about you and your blog.

jag--i knew you'd understand. :)
