I got this idea from Nat. Come to think of it, I think I got a couple of these songs from her as well!
Anyhoo, what are your favorite "non-traditional, non-denominational celebration"* songs? This year mine are as follows, although they're in no particular order.
The Long Winters--"Christmas With You Is the Best" mp3 off Music from the O.C. Mix 3 (buy)
E--"Everything's Gonna Be Cool This Christmas" mp3 off Useless Trinkets (buy)
Low--"Just Like Christmas" mp3 off Music from the O.C. Mix 3 (buy)
Josh Rouse--"Christmas With Jesus" mp3 off Under Cold Blue Stars (buy)
*Extra presents from Santa in your stocking if you can identify what song this comes from!
That Eels track is on heavy rotation on my iPod this Xmas.
me too! i'm quite sick of all my traditional/regular christmas music this
year. i've made two "indie" christmas mix cds so far. hey, christmas for
you should be really fun, what with that toddling boy. : )
Mine are all non-trad this year so far, too. I feel like bucking the
usual.
And thanks for the mention! :-)
hey, thank YOU for all the great music you've turned me on to this year. :
) as far as the weather, last i saw we were only going to get ice. i would
much prefer snow but i think we're going to get the shit end of the weather
stick this time. kind of like you guys got a week or so ago!
Roger Whittaker- Darcy the Dragon
Nana Mouskouri- Old Toy Trains
we've been listening to a sarah mclachlan chirstmas cd at work and i love
it. she's so mellow. my kids and i were having a discussion in the car
about "classic" christmas music. i had "thanks for christmas" by xtc on a
mix tape i was playing and i told them it was a classic and they vehemently
disagreed with me. they said it wasn't a classic in our house because i
didn't play it for them when they were growing up! further proof that we
parents have great musical influence--whether for good or for bad is
debatable--but we have it!
Thanks for the suggestions! I've been looking for non-traditional Christmas
songs and these are some good tips.
