The time has come to get new glasses and as much as I'd like to have new frames, I sincerely hate the process of finding them.
I don't seem to have a face made for glasses. They all look wrong on me. When I find a pair I can live with, I usually keep them for years, so my current pair are about four years old. I actually bought the exact same frames last time to save myself the bother of trying to find new ones. You know it's funny, but I remember every pair of glasses I've ever had. Maybe it's because I keep them so damn long!
My disinclination to do this notwithstanding, I am now far enough behind the fashion times that I must get new ones, and so the search begins.

I had a pair of blue glasses many years ago but I lost them. Well, more precisely, I left them behind, and since I couldn't remember where it was that I'd been, in essence I lost them. It's a long, long story involving more than my fair share of a bottle of tequila. Suffice it to say my mother never forgave me for that--and she didn't even know the half of it! Ah, good times.
I too have to wear glasses and, like you, I find that it's way too long
since I renewed them. I've received reminders from my optician for two
years now and I know I need to go and have my sight checked which will mean
a new precription and hence, new glasses.
The problem of fashionable/face-suiting frames also applies but, so does
the question of price. Here in the UK a pair of reasonably fashionable
frames with varifocal lenses and anti-scratch coating cost me £350 ($700) 4
years ago - and they weren't at the expensive end of the range!
The other option is to go for some very cheap ones, like John Lennon wire
frames....but with a bald head???? hmmm.....NO!!
What price vanity huh?
yikes, that is expensive! i'm fortunate to have some vision insurance so
that the out-of-pocket cost is lower. if i didn't, though, price would
definitely be a driving factor, no matter how vain i may be! :)
I got glasses some seven years ago purely because I couldn't read the train
departure board at Waterloo Station on my commute home. Since emigrating,
I've not had to use them once and i'm not even sure I know where they
are...
i've been wearing glasses since i was 9 years old. couldn't live without
them. so count yourself lucky, mr. fil!
I just got new ones, too, and I HATE the whole process. I've been wearing
glasses for 41 years now, and I have hated shopping for them all this time.
lol! thanks for the tip! i need all the help i can get. i felt really bad
about this, don't ask me why, but i exhausted all the frames at the
optometrist's office where i get my eye exams done, so i had to ask for my
prescription so i could expand my search. for some reason i feel guilty
about not having them make the glasses, but i don't have much choice if i
can't find the frames i want there, am i right?
