Oh, I've been waiting for this! Devotchka is one of my favorite bands and their new album, A Mad & Faithful Telling, will be out March 18 in North America and March 17 in Europe. You lucky Europeans will get to see them on tour before I will, as they're playing all over during the month of April. And if you live in Boulder, Colorado, you can see them on Valentine's Day at the Fox Theater.
So, on to the song. The song is wonderful! It's full and vibrant with strings galore and Nick Urata in great voice. Stereogum had first crack to offer the download and have a tiny interview with Nick about the album's subject matter, so you could go there to read what he has to say. But first, listen to the song and see what you think.
Devotchka--"Transliterator" mp3 off A Mad & Faithful Telling (buy--preorder)
He stayed after the radio show part was over and played some old stuff, some of which he couldn't quite remember, but it didn't matter. He knew folks wanted to hear it so he did his best to provide. We met him afterwards and he was very personable and just plain happy to be there, doing what he loves. What more could you ask for?
