I was just listening to some Garbage and it made me realize how very much I love Shirley Manson's voice. She's got quite a range, from very low and throaty to a clear, really pretty upper register, although she doesn't seem to use that as often.
Love that acoustic Garbage! The Blue Nile alas, there was a tour I worked
on where the sound man played that over and over every single day and I
think my head might explode if I heard it one more time.
sorry, fraser, if i'd known that i would've picked a different tune! who
were you on tour with?
Mmm, Shirley Manson. Yes please.
I did visual production (film, video, and slides) and projection for Laurie
Anderson for many years. It was a very fun time--she was a great boss and I
got to travel all over the world. It was a great group of people to tour
with too, even Robin, the sound engineer. (And just as a future note, no
"White Wedding" either please.)
wow, that is so cool! i suppose the music world takes on a whole new
dimension when you're a part of it from the inside. no wonder you know so
much about it. and i promise--no white wedding! : ) p.s. on the way home
this afternoon what do you think i heard on the radio? ha!
Oh, I had forgotten how good Garbage was. I miss the 90's, you know.
Great music, Bill Clinton, paying of the national debt, no religious
zealots in the White House, all that good stuff. Such a good sound. I
wonder if Bartcop is still in love with Shirley Manson... who's not,
really?
good garbage--sounds like an oxymoron. i don't remember being all that
enthralled with the 90s as they were happening, but compared to now they
seem like the good old days. ;-)
I was lucky to be living in the 5-college region of Massachusetts at the
time. Smith, Amherst, Mt. Holyoke, Hampshire, and UMass Amherst. There
was a ton of good music on the air and in the clubs. Imagine my shock when
I moved to BEL AIR, MARYLAND. Frontal lobotomy. Garbage was pretty
popular, and my proclivity for bands with angry women singers was in full
swing at that point. Poe was another good one. Cheers!
oh, man, we were just there this summer. i can only imagine what the music
scene must be like, even today. hey, are you singing the carmina? i'm
missing next week's rehearsal to see a show (don't tell p, i'm going to
pretend like i'm sick. ha!)
It was great, and I still miss it. I saw all kinds of bands, but also
Diana Krall, Fred Eaglesmith, Martin Sexton, and the Holly Cole Trio (best
show I've ever seen) all close enough to see them sweat.
