Today is Tuesday, which means the contrast podcast is up, and the theme this week is "Limericks." That meant you could choose any song you wanted as long as you wrote an original limerick as an introduction for it.
Well folks, I just couldn't do it. I am what you might call "limerick-challenged." Perhaps if I'd had a song that I was burning to share, then I could have forced one out, but it wouldn't have been any good. As a result, I am not in the podcast this week. To listen to all the wonderfully witty limericks other people came up with, go here.
Since I have nothing relevant to offer, how about these two lovely songs by the Glasgow band The Poems? That's at least marginally on topic, don't you think? (That's them in the picture, too.)
The Poems--"Ballad of a Bitter End" mp3 off Young America (buy) A ballad is a literary form, is it not?
The Poems--"Sometime Somewhere Someone Should Say Something" mp3 off Young America Here we have an excellent example of alliteration, another literary technique.
Young America came out in 2006 and they have a new record coming out Oct. 26th called I'm A Believer. I wonder if there are any Glaswegians reading this who have seen them perform and could give us a little info about their show?
Next week's podcast theme is "Lust," as in one of the seven deadly sins, so I'm pretty sure I'll have better luck finding something to submit.
You and me both, mjrc. I couldn't even pick out a song, much less come up
with a limerick. I might do better with Haiku. I think it's a mental
thing. Or lack of a mental thing! Cheers,WRE
i had the same thought--i think i could've done a haiku much more easily.
maybe we should suggest it to tim for a future podcast? he could do all the
poetry forms. : )
I thought I couldn't do it, either, but something told me I could do it if
I kept at it. I had help, though, because I couldn't figure out a rhyme
for Yoko, but my better half yelled out "loco" from another room. VOILA, I
had it!
Ha ha! I have already emailed Tim a song. Perhaps my strengths are in the
more base instincts, rather than the higher brain functions... Uh, bunga
bunga!
I am particularly liking The Poems at the moment too. I've ordered the
album but it's yet to arrive. Most exciting.
Oh, and I'm afraid I can't help you with the live thing, but I will try and
sort that out in the reasonably near future. Watch this space ------->
nat--i LOVED your intro. i think i suffered a bit from performance anxiety.
i was afraid mine wouldn't be good enough, so i slacked off. next time i'll
be more confident!
Since I have not participated in forever I wasn't going to start with a
limerick I am already writing a paper for my American Lit class! :)
i quite agree, that would not have been the podcast to dive back into! it's
a good one though, everyone did a great job with their intros. maybe you
can swing it this week? : )
Sorry, haven't seen them play as yet. But, I am picking up the new record
(as it is out on my birthday!) and going to see them play in Glasgae on Nov
23rd (I HOPE!) Colin. x
well hopefully between you and matthew, we will have two reviews to bask
in. i have not heard that cover, either. feel like sharing? : ) and happy
early birthday! for some reason i thought your birthday was in december? i
must be confused.
I am also limerick-challenged, and the way mine came about was, the song
chose ME not the other way around. I was listening to Say Hi's new album
on the way to their concert, and the lines started coming to me. Luckily
there was a traffic jam, and I was able to grab a pencil and paper and
write the words down before they got away. I was so proud, I had to have
an audience when I recorded it. My husband and grandson applauded, lol!
Linda, I loved that intro! It was great to hear your fans in the
background. Cheers, WRE
