It's Sunday, it's cool and kind of foggy, it's not your typical sailing weather (not in the northern hemisphere, at any rate), but this music is lovely. Let's Go Sailing is from L.A. and released their first full-length album, The Chaos in Order, last year. Technically the band consists of Shana Levy, formerly of Irving, but when she plays live she has a backing band with her.
I must admit I'm a sucker for a sensuous cello line, which is how this song opens. She has a delicate voice that complements the more full-bodied sound of the music. It's a simple song, but it fits the day today.

I fist heard Let's Go Sailing on a Dead Bees Sampler compilation disc. Here's a song from that that you might enjoy as well.

I missed a lot of music last year and, if I were a disciplined person, I'd start a little feature called "Things I Wish I'd Heard in 2007 But Have Decided It's Not Too Late to Listen to Now" and this would be the first band in it. Look for more along these lines in the next month or two as I continue to play catch up.
I was your reading your last post and so the comment about Sondre Lerche
which I did not notice until just now... the interesting thing is how did
you manage to get a picture of my ear, so close to boot.
Of course you know I have been singing you praises ever since I heard
Winterpills and now Let's Go Sailing from Los Angeles to boot. There is
something good going on in LA and it seems to continue. Meeting places,
Midnight Movies, Silversun Pickups, Let's Go Sailing... wow, to think I
used to live there and could be seeing all these cool shows!
aw, you're too kind. :) about the bands and the shows--don't you get a lot
of great bands coming through seattle? i would hope so. philly does pretty
well, being so close to new york. i'm really itching to get out. it's been
way too long.
Lovely tune. Reminds me of the Sundays. But, a lead singer with a voice
like Levy's, she could sing over a jackhammer and I would still say
"Sundays". An appropriate post for a Sunday! :)
it is lovely, isn't it. there's a remix of the sideways tune, but i don't
like it as much because it's more electronic and less lyrical. i think when
i come back in my next life i will learn to play the cello. :)
Talking about next lives and stringed instruments reminds me of the movie
"The Red Violin." It's about 5 years old, I think. It gave me a new
appreciation for the sound of the violin, which for me had been completely
uninteresting prior to that. Seems like you might like it; let me know if
you watch it. Cheers!
