I'm Kind of Stuck, So Bear With Me

posted Thursday, 14 December 2006
Hey everybody. I'm feeling kind of stuck these days, and one thing I'm stuck on is Cassettes Won't Listen. One song of theirs, in particular, is fast becoming a soundtrack to my days. "Where Did Go" has got this line that just repeats over and over: Where did my mind go? Where did my mind go? And I can't get past this question.
Don't get me wrong. Sometimes it's really a good thing when a song gets lodged in your brain, as it keeps you company and helps you process your thoughts and emotions. But sometimes it's not.
Tell you what. You listen to the scratchy guitars as they rip into their rhythm and you let his voice work its way into your psyche, and then you try to stop listening. I think you'll see what I mean.
Cassettes Won't Listen--"Where Did Go" mp3 off their upcoming album? I don't know, I can't seem to find out for sure. "Slap my hand and kiss me twice" and let me know if you have any idea.
Watch the video for it here. It's pretty cool. Has anybody ever seen them live? They did a show with Beat Radio in Brooklyn last month, and just had a gig at the Mercury Lounge in NYC on the 6th. No word on any upcoming shows, though. Check out the Dope Lotus Records site for a few more goodies and a little more information.
And yeah, don't worry, I'm working on my lists. My best-ofs, most favorites, wonderfulist wonderfuls of 2006. All in good time, people, in good time.

I was struggling with this same thing a bit ago as I was getting into the "band". Actually CWL is just one person, I alwyas thought it was a band but I saw on gorilla vs. bear that its one person, jason drake. also, where did go is a great song, I heard that its going to be on cwl's next album which is coming out mid next year. the live show is him on turntables and guitar and synthesizers. the mercury lounge was the first time i saw him and it was great, although i think a bit more instrumentation would have helped. hope you get your mind back :)

christy--i always get confused by bands with only one person. i thought maybe it was just one guy, but i wasn't sure. thanks for sharing what his show is like. i would like to see him but i hardly ever get into new york for shows. and yeah, i'm hoping my mind returns to where it's supposed to be, too. : )

*Edit*

...they/he are/is indeed good...

Damned subject/verb concordance...

andy--glad you're enjoying them. him? it's all so confusing!

fil--yes, it's an awfully clumsy name, but i suppose no more so than any number of bands out there, like the russian futurists (also one guy), the boy least likely to (more than one guy, i think + ends in a preposition--horrors!) and on and on. once i was going to do a post on bands that sound like they have more than one person but are really only solo acts, only i never did. that would be a good band name, "only i never did." and it could have 12 people in it like broken social scene. ;-)
