Jam on the Brandywine, aka Camelstock

posted Thursday, 17 September 2009

I realize this is short notice, but I don't often get to plug local events for people I actually know, so here goes.

The Jam on the Brandywine is a yearly music fest that benefits the Brandywine Valley Association, which is a non-profit organization dedicated to conserving the health and beauty of the Brandywine Creek watershed.

This year they've got eight bands lined up, with The Spinto Band as headliners. Pretty cool, don't you think? The other bands are strictly local, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't get out and enjoy them as well. Tickets are only $20/carload ($30 day of the show) and you can get them at their website.

The Spinto Band--"Pumpkins and Paisley" mp3 off Moonwink (buy)

The Spinto Band--"Crack the Whip" mp3 off Nice and Nicely Done (buy)

The rest of the day's lineup includes: Sin City Band, Nancy Micciulla, Uncle Jimmy, The Porch Chops, The Cameltones, Love Minus Zero (a subset of The Porch Chops, not the UK band) and Montana Wildaxe.

Enjoy!! I'm heading out for hubby's company picnic at Canobie Lake Park in NH. It's an older amusement park with only a few wild rides, and we take kids/grandkids and have a fun day. Last few years it's been rainy and damp, so here's hoping for a sunny, warm day for both our events! :-)

you know, i didn't even take my kids to the amusement park this summer. i was working so much that we didn't have time to do it! now i feel guilty! anyway, hope you have good weather too. i'm not sure i'm actually going to this event, but if i do, i certainly hope it doesn't rain! :)

Must admit I took a strong dislike to The Spinto Band when I saw them - self-absorbed, uber-geeky-cool little shits they were, and what sounded quirky on record was petulantly annoying onstage. I left after five songs, and would've left after two, only I spent several minutes on the way out chatting to Scott from opening band Frightened Rabbit (who I had really come to see).

Anyway, I hope the Brandywine was as musically sweet and intoxicating as its name promised!!

don't tell anybody, fil, but i didn't actually go! i'm sorry to hear that you dislike the spinto band, but on the other hand it sounds like it worked in your favor, considering you got to chat with scott! how cosmically cool is it that you, me, jc, colin and tart have all talked to him and we all "know" each other, too? i mean really, i think it's intensely cool. :)

I have been in love with "Pumpkins and Paisley" for quite a while now (as it is the happiest, jump up and down malicious song I've ever heard) but never thought to look into the band. Thank you so much for this post! You've inspired me to do so and once again led me to glorious things. Win!

aw, thanks jellie! i kind of feel the same way about crack the whip--such a great song wherein he's pretty much telling her, yep, i've been a bastard, but you'll take me back, right? :)

all mp3s are for sampling purposes only. you like it? you buy it. you want me to take it down? let me know. and for the uninitiated, if you wish to listen to a song, click on the little blue arrows and they will stream. thanks, your host and music lover, mjrc.
