Yep, it's that time of year again, when the little darlings return to school and mothers (and fathers) all over the world rejoice at having six, maybe seven hours a day to themselves. At least, that's how I feel! I've never been one of those parents who cries when the kids start school. I've tried--and believe me, I cry about a lot of other stuff pretty easily--but the only tears I can eke out are tears of joy.
Well, I do have a stray mixed feeling or two about it, but on the whole I'm quite glad when September rolls around and the old routine settles in. I like the relaxed pace of summer and sleeping in and all that entails, but after about six weeks, I begin to feel overwhelmed by the mess the children make and the late bedtimes and I start to long for the quiet and solitude that comes after they get on the bus each morning.
So here's to September and the new school year--may you enjoy it as much as I do. And here's to this week's contrast podcast, the theme of which just happens to be "back to school." Download/listen to it here and then, in the copious spare time you have now that the kiddies are gone, you can submit something for next week's episode, the theme of which is "1977."
