"It's Not So Hard"
If I could live by those four words, my life would be a lot less stressful, you know? But sometimes even the easiest things cause me angst. Things like choosing a song for the contrast podcast, for example.
Oh, I'm speaking halfway tongue-in-cheek, but I did worry a little bit about my song choice this week, mostly because it was slightly out of my hands. Not completely, seeing as the only songs on my ipod are ones that I've put there, but I was at the mercy of the ipod's choosing.
What am I going on about? Well, this week's theme was "Random/Shuffle." I was to hit "shuffle songs" on meh 'pod and whatever came up first was what I had to submit for the podcast. I was scared that it would either be a song I didn't like, or worse--an embarrassing song! Nevertheless, I bravely hit the shuffle button and thankfully, the god of the ipod smiled on me and up popped "It's Not So Hard" by Sparklehorse. I couldn't help but think that my ipod was trying to tell me something.

In other related contrast podcast news, Tim is planning a special series of podcasts for the last two weeks of December, but if you want to be in them you have to start working on your submission now. But don't worry, it really is painless (at least at this point). All you have to do is pick your 5 top songs of 2007 and send them in as a list.
Here are Tim's explicit directions:
1. Decide on your 5 favourite tracks of 2007 and put them in order from 1 (your favourite) to 5 (your fifth favourite).
2. Send this list to tim.young@rhul.ac.uk with ‘Contrast Podcast Festive 50’ in the message title by 27th November
3. This is open to all contributors and listeners to the podcast .. so spread the word.
4. Three lucky list-makers (pulled out of the hat randomly) will win a copy of the ‘The Trucks – Titties EP,’ including my remix!!
5. I will then put the lists together to make a chart and invite contributors to introduce songs that they have liked.
6. The podcast will go out from 18th December to 1st January with a countdown of the top 50 .. hopefully!
Isn't that a great idea? That Tim is full of them, I must say.
Speaking of things that make me nervous, I was interviewed by Blogfresh Radio once again, this time to talk about The Real Tuesday Weld. I had no problem thinking of things to say, but I always feel a little anxious before the interview and worry that I'm not going to make sense. Thanks to the top-notch editing skills of the gang over at Blogfresh, however, it always come out splendidly. I think.
I say in the interview that TRTW's cover of "Stand By Your Man" was the first song of his that I heard, but after we were done talking I realized that it was actually this song:

i've just about got my top-5 list done, too. actually, i'm 99% sure it's
done, i just want to let it jell for a while so that i'm satisfied with the
order.
children have minds--and tastes--of their own, dear sir, so we can't be
held quite as accountable as you might think. i have a whole post written
about this subject that's waiting for one of my own to choose a song for,
but got help me i can't get her to do it any faster than she's going to do
on her own, which is yet another case in point thereof. : )
