I'm finally going to get to see one of my favorite bands this Saturday night! Beat Radio is headlining at the Philly club The Fire, with the first band starting at 9 p.m. To say that I'm looking forward to seeing them would be quite the understatement.
I was supposed to see them way back in February, but they had to cancel the show due to bad weather. I know I could always hike up to Brooklyn to see them, but that's much easier said than done these days. So this event has been a long time coming and I can't wait.
In case you're unfamiliar with Beat Radio's goodness, here are a couple tracks to whet your appetite. I've written about them before, and their album The Great Big Sea was my third favorite album of last year, so I think they're pretty great. Here are a couple of my favorite songs, which I would love love love if they played (hint, hint).
Beat Radio--"Mexico" mp3 off The Great Big Sea (buy)
Beat Radio--"Elegy" mp3 off The Great Big Sea
Beat Radio--"Everyone's Starting Over (Diggs Cover)" mp3 off The Covers EP
If you want to go to the show, you can get tickets here. Opening for them are Your Midway Host (who's from Philadelphia), McGowan (from Brooklyn), and John Mallinen (also from Philly). Next Friday they're playing at Milkboy Coffee in Ardmore, PA, and you can get tickets to that show here.
Oh yes, nothing beats getting to see a band you've wanted to see for a
while (assuming high expectations are met, and they usually are). this
applies to both first time experiences and repeat experioences. For
example, I last saw My Bloody Valentine play in 1991 (I think it was) and
I'm slightly freaked out that I'm going to see them play again next year...
once more at the Barrowlands in Glasgow to boot (where they played in the
early 90s). I really am very, very excited! I hope Beat Radio make your
heart soar! Enjoy your night. x
thank you colin. i'm pretty sure i won't be disappointed. i've only ever
heard great things about their show. that is very cool about mbv playing
the same place you saw them first so long ago. you were a different person
then, and so were they, so it will be interesting to see how your
experience is changed by all of you growing up! : )
ENjoy! And I know you'lll like "Enchanted," it's great fun!!
Have a lovely Thanksgiving weekend!
