I lost a subscriber the other day.
Big deal, you may say. Well, it is and it isn't. See, for the most part I realize that it doesn't actually reflect on me whether someone reads my blog. A person could unsubscribe for any number of reasons. I can't think of any at the moment, but I'm sure there are some. On the other hand, since my blog is all me, all the time, I can't help but take it personally when someone decides it's not worth reading anymore. Does that make sense?
So although I'm not really all torn up about it on one level, on another it makes me feel sad and inadequate somehow. I'm not meeting someone's needs or expectations--someone who used to be satisfied (I assume) and no longer is. It's a very weird feeling. And yes, I'm being very silly, I know!

Well I've now subscribed to make up that number, although I would have been
reading anyway, but I hope it's at least a nice gesture. :)

Your numbers are going up by the minute. Now you have two new subscribers.
I always get something out of reading your blog. Face it, Marcy, you have
stuff to say and you say it well. And you have great taste in music...your
own personal soundtrack. Glad you are safely back from your trip. Can't
wait to hear about it.
Your blog is one of my favorites, Marcy. Please don't feel blue.
Well, I recently entered the 21st century and started subscribing to RSS
feeds, yours included, so I guess statistically I'm a new subscriber, even
though I'm old hat.
Well there you go....despite being a regular and all that, I'd thought I'd
come in as a new subscriber to replace the one who has gone....and good old
Adam beats me to the punch.
geeze, i didn't mean to come off quite so "poor me" about this. i feel even
sillier now! but i thank you ALL for your very kind words of support and
encouragement.
Hi there! I bet your subscriber just decided to go with Reader or some
other service rather than the feeds. He or she is probably reading this
right now!
I don't subscribe to any feeds either. Two reasons. A) I'm lazy and I never
bothered to figure out how. B) I chuck my regular reads on my blogroll so
that they're all in one spot right where I need ém! And I'm with you Marcy,
I kinda like the surprise factor too!
aww marcy, i go through those feelings too! when i believe ive lost a
subscriber or dont have as much traffic as yesterday, or any other blogger
woe ;) it does hurt. unfortunately, its both part of our sensitive and
worried nature. when after a few hours or a different day, the memory
slips.. we gain another new visitor and everything resumes as nothing ever
happened at all.
it's their loss! :D x
