I Miss Sufjan

posted Wednesday, 21 May 2008

I miss Sufjan Stevens something fierce. His songs reach a place deep inside me, the place where it still hurts no matter what I do, no matter how much time has passed. You know the place, it's where the demons live.

Sufjan Stevens--"Damascus" mp3 off B-Sides

Sufjan Stevens--"John Wayne Gacy, Jr." mp3 off Come On Feel the Illinoise (buy

Sufjan Stevens--"The Predatory Wasp of the Palisades Is Out to Get Us" mp3 off Come On Feel the Illinoise

Sufjan Stevens--"A Winner Needs a Wand" mp3 off A Sun Came! (buy)

Well how old is the guy? He's got another 48 states to cover, hasn't he, so he better get his finger out.

he's about your age, i suppose, so he's not quite a geezer! i was searching for up-to-date info on what he's working on, but aside from some music about the brooklyn-queens expressway, i don't see anything new. he was in japan and australia in january but there aren't any new show dates, either. hopefully he's holed up in his apartment in brooklyn writing his next masterpiece.

Yeah, I miss him, too. I WANT NEW SUFJAN! Think he'll see that?

I want him to do a PA or MA recording. Can't you just see it? The PA one could have a song about the plane down on 9/11 or something about Rocky's statue. The MA one could have a Ted Kennedy funeral dirge (oh wait, he's not quite dead yet!) (Sorry, it's like, the ONLY news story up here and it's driving me nuts. I have a feeling it's going to be a daily Ted update and it's morose.)

oh nat! actually i feel really bad for old ted. he's the end of an era, you know? one of the last old school liberal politicians who could really get things done. but i do feel for you and the news coverage. best to just turn it off!

and yes, i think sufjan reads my blog, so i'm SURE he saw your request! ;-)

I feel badly for Ted, too, and he really is the last of his kind. I do turn off the news when they start in now, but it's every stinking day. Like, Ted Kennedy's Tumor, Day 3. It's just sick. But I do wish him lots of luck in his fight. I know, at least, that he can afford the best care he can possibly get and that he's in one of the finest areas for cancer-fighting in the entire world.

you know, working where i do, where the majority of our patients have breast cancer, i've gained a very deep appreciation of what people who are battling cancer go through. it's so hard on them. sometimes i don't know how they keep their spirits up, although i guess if you didn't try to fight it as hard as you could, you'd just buckle under and then it would be even worse. oy. cancer, the great equalizer.

Yeah me too. Where has he gone? What happened to the 50 states albums? I was looking forward to Florida!

at this point he could write a song about not wanting to write songs about the 50 states anymore and i'd take it!

mjrc, you scared me for a second! At first I thought something had happened to Sufjian. But now I am just worried about you and your demons. Hope all is well...
