I May Have Been a Drummer in a Previous Life

posted Saturday, 3 October 2009

I just don't feel like blogging. I know that's sort of stupid to write in a blog post, but I'm sitting here at the computer trying to think of something to say and that's all that comes to mind.

Instead of writing, you see, I'm playing a lot of Rock Band 2. My daughter got it for her birthday and I have to say, it's a most excellent form of family entertainment. Even my teen-age son is joining in the fun. So far I enjoy drumming the most, although singing is my real strength. For some reason, I've yet to pick up the guitar. It kind of scares me.

The crummy thing about it is that you have purchase all the good songs (we didn't get the Beatles version). From the little I've browsed, I've seen some interesting choices, including an old favorite of mine, "Hell Hole" by Spinal Tap, and "Wolf Like Me" by TV on the Radio. I'm sure there are loads more, too, I just haven't gotten to them yet. I don't suppose it'll have any Frightened Rabbit or Eastern Conference Champions, though, two of the most fantastic drumming bands around.

Of the music that comes with it, the best track I've "performed" is a Social Distortion song, "I Was Wrong." Not my typical cup of tea, true, but it sure is fun!

My only experience with this is Guitar Hero and I totally sucked at it. We're thinking of getting the Beatles Rock Band for our son (and us) for xmas, but both hubby and I know that we'll both stink at it (and hubby's a real drummer. Drumming by button just isn't the same, so he know's he'll potentially suck at the game.) Sounds like you're having fun, though, so that's a good thing!!

Yikes, I played Rock Band *once*, and I knew I could never own it or play it again or else I'd never leave my house. Seriously addicting. And I was terrible, mind you. I could only play Kaiser Chiefs 'Ruby'.

nat--i think you may be surprised at how much you enjoy rock band. and the drumming is fairly realistic. i mean, you have four drumheads and a bass drum pedal, so you actually play them like real drums. the guitar, not so much, but still, both my son and husband love it. get the wireless version, tho, if you can.

sean--it is seriously addicting! but at the same time, it's the most time we've spent together as a family other than in the car or something for a long time, so it's worth it! :)

I really want one of these, but I've got to wait for my boys to get bigger in order to justify it.

yeah, you're probably right, but on the other hand, by the time they are, it will be even cooler!

It is great family fun. Shane is a die hard fan so we have all versions. Keep rocking out with the fam. How awesome to do something all together. :-)

now all we need is a fourth instrument and we can all play at the same time instead of taking turns. less fighting that way! :)

all mp3s are for sampling purposes only. you like it? you buy it. you want me to take it down? let me know. and for the uninitiated, if you wish to listen to a song, click on the little blue arrows and they will stream. thanks, your host and music lover, mjrc.
