Have I mentioned how much I like my new job? It's not all that new anymore, I guess, since I started doing it back in July, but it still feels like a new part of my life.
Someone once told me that I needed to be a part of something where people depended on me, that I needed to be part of a team. I wasn't so sure I agreed at the time, as I felt like I had plenty of people depending on me all the time (i.e., the family). But now I understand what she meant.
It feels really good to be a part of something that's bigger than just me and my immediate concerns. Doing it gets me out of my head and away from all my unproductive, obsessive thoughts and at the same time helps other people who are dealing with some really tough circumstances.
Plus I really enjoy the actual work. I think it helps that I work very part-time. I suppose it's possible that I could get sick of it if I had to do it day in and day out, but for now it's a perfect balance. I feel privileged to work there.
Best bonuses of my job? Besides the fact that I'm working with my two best friends, I learned how to fold a fitted sheet! Plus I get to take in my own mix-tapes and play them all day long. You really can't beat that.

Oh good for you !!! And you get to play your mix tapes, perfect !!! It's
funny how people all over the world just get put together for around 8 hrs
per day and are expected to get along. I get along with everyone in my
office, but sometimes i can't help but feel that i have nothing in common
with em, none of em listen to music (they are all nice people), i think
they see me as some crazy rocker !!! It's good that you've got your mates
with ya at work, that defo helps and makes it enjoyable !!! Rock on !!!
oh, you crazy rocker, you! : ) that is true, though. complete strangers are
supposed to not only get along, but be productive. i am lucky, that's for
sure, to be with friends. although sometimes you can get to know people in
a different way if you work with them, and that can be a potentially tricky
situation. but that's not the case so far with mine.
Fitted sheets baffle me. I end up frustrated and then roll them in a ball.
i wish i could make a video and show you. it's not that hard once you know
the secret. hold the sheet long-ways and put your hands in the top two
corners of the pockets. then you flip one side of the sheet over the other,
like you might invert or roll a pair of socks, with your hand still in the
pocket. keeping your one hand in that pocket, you rotate the sheet and put
your other hand in the other pocket/corner, and do the same thing. then you
keep your right hand in the pocket and fold the sheet from the top down
about one third of the way (you have to lay it down at this point), then
fold it over again, then fold the ends in by thirds. voila! like i said, i
wish i could demonstrate it, coz once you do it, it's pretty easy. : ) oh,
and it's most easily done with a twin-sized sheet!
That is so awesome Marcy that you love your job!! That is so important I
think so it makes me happy to hear that you are happy and balanced because
that is ideal.
it should be the name of a mystery novel--"the curse of the fitted sheet."
