Can I Be Honest With You?

posted Sunday, 24 September 2006
Can I be honest with you? I had a nice time in San Diego, I really did, but I don't think I could take living out there. Why? Because it's fucking sunny all the time. I don't think I could withstand the pressure of all that blue sky and sunshine.
Let me explain: The relentless sunshine was like forced gaiety, like the smile you fake to strangers. It was a cruel reminder of all that is missing, all that I can't have, all that can't be. I felt lost out there. I had nowhere to be and anywhere to go, and the only place I wanted to be was impossible to find.

Oh dear, mjrc, that has made me all sad for you... You'd like Vancouver better, I wager. We get great sunshine, but buckets of rain too. Maybe the real secret is to try to shift the focus from what one can't have/be to what one can have/be. Easier said than done, I know, but...

Here's wishing you calm, peace, and just the right mix of sun & rain! :)

Riding on the coattails of a business trip is the way to go - my wife did that to me a couple of times while we lived in the UK. Stockholm and Amsterdam - both were great fun!

Half the time? That means the other half you're not - and that's a better starting point than many...

Cheers, FiL
