Holy crap, did you see this? I'm sure you have by now.

This is a nightmare come true. It's particularly frightening to me because it wakes me about something that I take for granted every day--that our infrastructure will hold up while we travel along it. But you can't live your life in fear about stuff like this happening, can you? I mean, you couldn't function if you did. I suppose you just have to soldier on, coz you never know when it's going to be your turn.
With that in mind, I'm off to see Tegan and Sara. Wish me luck!

Is it really crass of me to post songs in connection with this? I have a gut feeling it is, but then again I'm not entirely sure. My moral compass is a bit off these days. My apologies if I've offended anyone.

If you ever have to ask yourself "is this crass?" the answer's probably
yes.
It's a bit like something I would do Marcy, which may not be the answer you
want to hear ;-)
omg, i knew it! i feel so ashamed. : ( of course it's too late to change
now. i'll try to redeem myself at a later date, i promise.
I just posted a piece making fun of a kid being mauled by a cougar, so I'm
really in no position to judge. I think it's human nature to make fun of
tragic situations. It's what we do instead of flinging feces and not nearly
as offensive.
well, at least i'm still one step above flinging feces! ;-) i just read an
article about how they're considering it a miracle that so few people died.
about a hundred are injured, but all things considered, that's pretty
amazing.
People write songs all the time for tragedies. And those of us that can't
write but love music find a song that goes along with our feelings
so....not that crass :)
i believe music connects all events around us, be it love or misery. so,
you were more than entitled to add music to this catastrophe... especially
when you add a mazzy star track. thanks!
thanks for the support. and i love that mazzy star song, too. : )
Couple of thoughts:
1. Has anyone of us actually ever thrown feces? Could it actually be fun?
Are the apes onto something here? Am I turning Japanese?
2. I don't think it's crass, as long as you're not making light of
tragedy. And even then, comedy is an age-old way to deal with grief.
3. I don't think they're going to find those 8 missing people. The
Mississippi's got a long history of making people just disappear... It is
tragic.
wre--i'm pretty sure if any of us has thrown feces, it was long ago and we
can't remember how good it felt. ;-) you'll have to read mentok's latest
post, wherein he addresses the whole concept of bad taste and
humor--including the throwing of feces. : )
I've been known to post pretty off-color/ inappropriate song choices...it's
your blog. You're allowed to post whatever you want. I mean the text
accompanying the post is thoughtful, so I think it's fine, frankly!
