Happy New Year!

posted Monday, 1 January 2007
Happy New Year, everyone! Did you survive? Did you party til you dropped and are you crushingly hungover? Or did you fall asleep before midnight? Whatever the case, it's 2007 now, and in this new year, I resolve to be less sad and depressed and make an effort--a concerted effort--to be more hopeful and look for the happy. How's that?
What are your resolutions, or do you even bother with that kind of crap? I usually don't, but I figure if I say mine "out loud," so to speak, I'll have a better chance of making it a reality.
Oh, and I've changed all the links on my top-ten albums list and my favorite songs list to ones that actually work, so if you tried them before and found them dead, they should all be alive now.
Kunek--"A Sign of Life" mp3 off Flight of the Flynns (buy)
Rafter--"Hope" mp3 off Music for Total Chickens (buy)

Yes, I'll raise my glass to hope. And to love and happiness. And to you, M. I hope the next 12 months prove to be the best. ever. yet. Or at least close, to the edge ;) x Ps. My one resolution is... well, sure you can guess. It involves not enjoying sad songs quite so much. This situation needs to change, quite urgently.

you know, t, i'm counting on you to help me out in the search for less-sad music. two heads will be better than one when it comes to finding a bit more of the uplifting stuff. it MUST be out there, i know it is, we just need to find it.

thanks for the toast. i wish you all the same. and don't be too hard on yourself for pushing post twice--i got kind of excited seeing three whole comments! ;-)

Happy New Year to you too Marcy :) I've enjoyed watching your blog grow over the past year, and look forward to a lot more good music through 2007.

As for the resolutions thing, it's not something I tend to bother with. I think I'm going to stop drinking altogether, after dropping to pretty much none in 2006 anyway. Actually, that makes me sound like an alcoholic. Which I'm really not. I can't stand the stuff, hence it's no great loss to drop it completely.

I think I'm going to try and get to more gigs. 2006 was already my biggest year for them - I went to something like six! But at least one a month would be good. I'm going to try and put on some more too, even if the first one was a spectacular failure.

Cleaner teeth (I will brush three times instead of two times a day).

Just being realistic.

Oh, yes, your resolution will do nicely for me as well. We can but try.

More shows would be good as well. I live in the music capitol of the world, u know (according to our tourist literature).

eddie--you're so funny about the drinking. actually, i spent my first sober new year's eve in years last night, and to tell the truth, i was extremely grateful not to be hungover today. maybe that's the way to go. : ) and yes, yes, yes to more gigs. i'd love to get out more, but it's not as easy as it sounds. good luck with putting on more shows, too. it's probably a lot of work, but worth it.

liz--i spent the dinner hour trying to explain to my 7 year old what a resolution is. her first impulse was to resolve not to go to school tomorrow. i had to say, no, that's not quite it. : ) yes, you, me and mr. t. shall all try to leave the depression behind. we can form our own little support group and look for non-sad theme songs (i think happy might be pushing it at this point). ;-)

Yes, cheers all around!

As for resolutions...Oh dear there are so many I wouldn't know where to start.

I second the entire attending more shows resolution...

And dear Marcy, if only it were that easy, but as we both know sometimes it is much deeper than that. Here's to happiness and change in 2007! *hug*

rachel--i know it's not that easy, but i finally "wised up" (did i ever thank you properly for that song?) and realized the first step is deciding that i really do want out of it. so yes, here's to happiness and change. : )
