Depending on how you spent your night last night, I either wish you Happy New Year!!! or happy new year . . .
I'm two days late with the final episode of the contrast podcast's Festive Fifty year-end countdown, which you can listen to here. I hope it's not a harbinger of things to come in the new year, my being late with things. I'm sure it's not. Although I'm putting it up late because I was late with my own top-ten album list . . . so it's hard to say for certain!
Anyway, if you bother to listen to the podcast through to the end, you will hear who got to introduce the number one song of the year, and you will see that it was yours truly. I felt incredibly honored to do it and I thank Tim for asking me.
And what was the number one song? "White Winter Hymnal" by Fleet Foxes. Yeah, kind of a surprise, but not really, considering the impact this tune has had on so many people. It has such a simple, pure melody, almost childlike, which I think is a large part of its appeal. It takes you back to a time when things were simpler, when your biggest problem was trying not to fall in the snow when you were bundled up in your heaviest coat. Now we all wear heavy coats but of a different kind and most of us wish we could return to those early days. At least, that's what it means to me.

I'm also putting up my favorite New Year's song, which isn't strictly about the holiday but more about a state of mind, one which I hope to attain to an even greater degree this year.

So here's to a relatively calm and steady 2009. I hope for those of you who are searching for answers and trying to find your way that you are able to do so, and I hope for those of you who are trying to hold on and might prefer maintaining the status quo that it works out that way for you, too. I don't see why it can't be both, depending on what you need, am I right? xxx
status quo for me this year if you dont mind thank you very much. But not
so much that it becomes tedious.
all the best to you in the new year too, jc. and i'm hoping for status quo
myself, in a big way!
Nope, this year is all about shaking things up for me. I'm tired of the
same boring patterns and it's time to LIVE! Am heading overseas and taking
it as it comes.
oh dear agnes! i'm so excited for you. i wish you all the best in your
travels and adventures and i can't wait to hear all about it. : )
I plan on having a much better year in 09 than I had in 08. And even if
things don't go according to plan, I'll not let it get me down.
that's pretty much how i felt about '07, so i hope it works out that way
for you in '09. : )
Happy New Year to you too! May it be a good year for all of us. And if not
a good year, perhaps a Michelin. oiy.
oh!! that was terrible! but i wish the same to you! : )
Thanks Marcy! I'm pretty darn excited too!
Hope your 2009 rocks! I really like that New Buffalo track.
