Periodically I find myself with a bunch of songs that I want to write about but never quite get around to fully reviewing. This phenomenon often leads to one of these catch-all types of posts like today's. So here are a few goodies that have been floating around my ipod.
Tim Williams --"Novel" mp3 off When Work Is Done (Unmastered Mixes) (buy) I love the idea of this song: "Stuck in a novel that no one will let you leave." I also find this line resonates particularly well: "I wrote all the right things for you but they were not convincing."
Soft--"Higher" mp3 off Gone Faded EP (buy) Simply put, a luscious morsel of shoegaze.
Seabear--"I Sing I Swim" mp3 off The Ghost That Carried Us Away (buy) "I miss you even when you're around" and "Human skin can be hard to live in" are two of the best lines I've heard in a long time.
Division Day--"More Than This (Roxy Music Cover)" mp3 Linda sang their praises the other day, but these two lovely gems dropped into my inbox just yesterday and I thought you might like them. The original of this is one of my favorite songs evah. Division Day recently released their album Beartrap Island, and it's well worth a listen.
Division Day--"Plowed" (Sponge Cover)" mp3 Oh, this one is all fuzzy and warm, like your favorite pair of slippers.
This is like my little Friday mix up as well! We were grooving to the same
idea today. :)
great minds think alike, you know! i'm hopping over to see what you've got
up right now. : )
That Division Day cover of the Roxy one... hmmm... it dropped in my inbox
as well and to begin with, I must admit, I just cringed. But, it grew on
me. Some songs just need time and a few plays. And, they were very brave to
take it on - you need to respect that a fair bit.
i really like the sparseness of it. makes it even more mournful. ferry's
voice was/is so beautiful, so fluid, and this guy's voice is no comparison,
but i think it's a good match for the arrangement. he sounds so resigned.
