As much as I suspect most people who visit here regularly actually come more for the words than the music, I feel compelled to feature new bands from time to time. Hard as I try to combine the music and the words for the best effect, it doesn't always work out that way. The result is that there's a lot of music that gets left behind that I'd really like to write about but I don't get to because it doesn't quite match the topic. So that's what today's post is all about.
Vancouver, Canada musician Dan Mangan's myspace page describes his music as folk, and it is, but it's not your typical folk music. It's got more of a full-on band treatment and even rocks out a bit, with some electronic touches. I really like it. This track is from his upcoming EP plus he's got a full-length coming out later this year.

Nuuro is originally from Caracas, Venezuela, but I believe he's out of New York these days. There's not a lot of information about his on his myspace page, but I'm not really sure it matters when you make such cool, downtempo electronica.
Nuuro--"Avila" mp3 off Reddest Ruby (buy--it's available on itunes but apparently not on US itunes)

I suppose The Botticellis are what you'd consider straight up indie pop. They're from California and their cover of this Whitesnake song is really lovely--not a word you'd generally associate with Whitesnake music!

Lastly, I got an email from a Japanese band called Lalory and it was like a little gift dropped into my inbox. A shiny ball of synthy dance goodness. They do fun remixes, too.

The Severed Limb--"Are You Loathesome Tonight (Lalory's Space Cowboy Mix)" mp3
That really is a lovely cover though I am an unashamed fan of the original
as well. I consider it my theme song- like a drifter I was born to walk
alone :).
