One of my favorite people in the whole world is named Emily, and no, it isn't
Emily Haines, although
I like her a lot. Nope, it's someone much nearer and dearer to my heart.
Why am I telling you this, you ask? Well, there are a lot of songs with Emily in the title, and some of them are really great. And it's a good excuse to share them with you, that's why. Enjoy.

Let's call this Letter E, shall we?
TVOTR/Grizzly Bear concert update: Yes, I went to the show, and yes, it was awesome.
Grizzly Bear did not disappoint. In fact, their energy on stage was terrific, especially bass player extraordinaire Chris Taylor. He really ripped things up. I had read somewhere that their vocals were superb at their shows, and I agree. They harmonized beautifully. And their songs sounded a lot more rock 'n roll than they do on their records.
Truthfully, though, once
TV on the Radio took the stage, I pretty much forgot about GB. You talk about energy--they gave 110% (cliche, I know, but oh so true). Lead singer Tunde Adebimpe couldn't have given any more of himself to his performance. He was on fire.
So the Starlight Ballroom is a huge box of a place, with two-tiers of large, elevated booths on either side. We got to sit in one closest to the stage on the right side. Well, the best thing about it (other than not having to stand the whole time) was that we could sit on the edge of it up above the crowd. What a view! Now, if you've ever seen TVOTR, you know that Tunde has got this way of waving his free arm and hand around in an almost out-of-body way. It's like it's alive and possessed. It's really cool. Well, from our vantage point, we could see all these other arms up above people's heads waving and diving and imitating Tunde, such that they reminded me of
Thing from the Addams family! It was quite a sight.
Turns out this was TVOTR's last U.S. tour date before they head out of town, plus it was their last show with Grizzly Bear. I think that may have contributed to the raw energy of the performances. My only complaint about the evening was the sound quality. It was sooo loud that it actually made it sound less sharp, and TVOTR's vocals could've been more prominent in the mix. Other than that, though, it was phenomenal.
Oh, and there was a point during GB's show when both Tunde and David Sitek were standing not five feet from me, grooving and watching the guys onstage. I wanted to go say something to them, what, I don't know, other than to gush, so I didn't. And of course I didn't get pictures either coz my camera is on the fritz!
