Have you ever thought about how long you want to live? I've been doing the math lately and even if I live a really long life, I'm definitely more than half-way through. It's kind of depressing.
And of course, I mean living and being healthy, not just existing in a rheumy, semi-ambulatory state blankly staring out the windows of the nursing home, unable to meaningfully participate in life.
See, as I was on my hands and knees cleaning the baseboards the other day (sometimes that's the only way to get things really clean, you know), my feet were aching and my knees kind of hurt and it hit me that my body is going to give out on me eventually, no matter what I do to try to maintain it. It's just a fact of life. There's going to come a time when I won't be able to do what I want to do, whether it's exercising, vigorous house cleaning or possibly even walking. It really kind of sucks, doesn't it?
When you're young, you don't think about such things. If you do, they seem extremely abstract and so far in the future that you just say to yourself, I'll deal with it when that day comes. As you get closer to being able to visualize that being your reality, however, it makes you much more sad to contemplate such a fate.
So on that cheery note, let's see what kind of music I have to share with you on this happy day! I've picked an eclectic mix, as usual, but I'd say for the most part it's mellow, thoughtful stuff, which is precisely the kind of mood I'm in today.

"The long and winding road just got shorter". Ha!!
I just started having to read certain things by holding them farther away. Such a sign of aging when the eyes beg for reading glasses. It bothers me as do the sore knees when I garden. So, I definitely hear what you are saying! Good songs to ponder middle age with, btw.
